It all started with Engie. She hosted a book club which, if memory serves me correctly, Birchie dubbed The Cool Bloggers Book Club.
And just like that we decided we were bloggers and we were cool.
There was the time I posted about the 12-3-30 workout and, thanks to Birchie again, it was promptly dubbed The Cool Bloggers Workout.
Then there was the Curried Chickpea Salad which originated…wait for it…with Birchie.
Dare I attempt to launch another Cool Bloggy Thing? (I clearly should be consulting Birchie first!)
Fortuitously, April 3, 2024 is National Walking Day. What better time to shake off the mental and physical dust from winter/adulting and lace up my sneakers.
For me the hardest part is always getting out the door (or, in especially unsavoury weather, on the treadmill). In an effort to move onward and upward, I plan to walk at least ten minutes each day in April. Because of how my life is organized I’m assuming many days I will walk far more than ten minutes, but knowing I have a plan to be intentionally active each day – and knowing the bar is set at a very accessible level – feels…comforting.
Now let’s swing back around to Birchie one more time who summarized blogging so perfectly: Blogging is kind of like going to a party where you don’t know anyone but then you start chatting and soon you’re in a roomful of friends.
Let’s walk together, friends <3
Who’s in?
P.S. Bonus points if you source some gold stars for the check boxes…
P.P.S. If you’re inclined to share, I’d love to get some pictures from people out on their walking adventures! I’ll plan to do a fun little roundup at the start of May.
P.P.P.S. If you have a dog you are clearly laughing hysterically at the thought of being purposeful about fitting in ten minutes of walking a day!
UPDATE:
- This is not only for bloggers! “Cool Blogger Clubs” are open to all!
- I am not necessarily going to walk outside every day; the weather is still precarious where I live and I am a bit of a fragile orchid when it comes to wind/rain/cold. Treadmills count! Hallways count! Hotel rooms and airports count. I’m simply aiming for 10 intentional minutes.

As Birchie likes to say, I’m here for this! That sounds like a fun idea and of course everything is better with friends!
Elisabeth
Aw. Yay! I’m so glad you’re going to join!!

Listen, I know cool folks and cool things when I see them. It’s true that I will be walking every day in April thanks to Ms Doggo, but walking with Cool Bloggers just makes things…well…cooler. I’m in for Cool Blogger Miles!
Elisabeth
Yay! If you’d taken a pass on this I’m not sure what that would have said for future Cool Blogger initiatives – haha <3
Joy
I’m not a cool blogger, but super excited for this! Could not have come at a better time!
Elisabeth
Well, you are cool and of all the people saying Yes to this “challenge” knowing you’re in makes me the happiest <3
Maybe we can fit in some (more than 10-minute) walks together in April! I have extra star stickers should you be interested...

I’m in! Walking without a dog is somewhat depressing, but I do it every day anyway, so this is an easy win for me. How much of life can be described as an easy win? NOT MUCH, so I’ll take it!
Also, I bought some peach/ginger jam the other day, and I plan on using it in a batch of curried chickpea salad. The first time I made it, I used peach (or was it apricot? I’m not sure) jam, and it was OK but could be better.
Elisabeth
You must Mulder so very much on your walks, but I’m incredibly proud of you for walking daily. And I love your perspective on this being an easy win!
I haven’t used jam for the chickpea salad yet, but we love it with red pepper jelly!

I’m in! April feels like the hardest winter month for. Everywhere else is fully in Spting it feels like and here we are alternating between winter and maybe-Spring.
I’m frightfully behind on commenting on posts. Have been reading but haven’t been commenting- I’ve been in a bit of a funk for some reason
Elisabeth
Yay! I think March is my hardest month. I’m tired of winter and cold, the time changes which always throws me for a loop, and it feels sooooo long. I’m hoping that having a fun daily activity on my radar will help April go by pleasantly.
Never any pressure to comment. Sometimes we need to be only consumers of info without feeling the need to participate. Show up when you’re able and I’m so glad you’ll be walking “with me” in April.

I am going to try to do this, too! At first I thought it was 10 minutes outdoor and that can be tricky when I travel for work as I can stay in really in walkable places… like along the side of a freeway in New Jersey… but I can do 10 minutes of indoor counts! I like a challenge and doing it with friends makes it even better! Thanks for the motivation!
Elisabeth
Yay. I thought people might thing 10 minutes was ridiculous. At first I was going to do 1 km, but that felt “tired” from my year of doing daily 1-km walks. Plus, many readers measure things in miles. I liked, too, that it was about time not distance. So I could do ten minutes of power walking one day and another day of 10 minutes of strolling. Plus – I know myself. Almost always 10 minutes will end up being more than that BUT I also feel like on days when I have zero motivation, knowing I “only” need to do 10 will feel so doable.
Sophie
I’m in! Especially because I’m now officially a blogger! (Although I’m still in the awkward I just arrived at a party stage). I love walking but don’t always manage it so this will help me get out the door!
Elisabeth
Yay! I’m so glad you’re going to join me. Sometimes it takes just the tiniest nudge to get out the proverbial – or literal – door.
Nicole MacPherson
Rex and I walk every day regardless, so we are in! This morning we hiked up Knox Mountain, and I can send you some photos if you like (he’s super cute) (the photos are on IG but I know you’re not there!).
Elisabeth
Yes! I’d love pictures from your walks with Rex. The cuteness of the combo of you two might break the internet <3
Steph
I am in!! Love a fun, communal challenge. 🙂
Elisabeth
Great! The more the merrier.
Rachel
I definitely would like to do the walking challenge! I think it will be VERY good for me since I sometimes spend all day in my house. And It would be good for me to get 10 minutes outside without babies, even if the weather is very wet! Great idea thank you!
Elisabeth
Oh, I’d love to have you joining from Wales! I felt a bit silly picking 10 minutes – but it feels…doable for me. Regardless of the day or my mood, I can do 10 minutes. Also, it doesn’t require a specific pace. If I had set a distance goal, I think it would have felt a bit more onerous?
Jenny
GREAT idea! Like I said in my comment from the previous post, walking helps everything. I’ll definitely join!
Elisabeth
Yay! I assume we will have very different weather for our walks!
Lindsay
Oh, I’m in, as well! Indoors helps so much with how the weather has been so back and forth here. I don’t mind walking in the rain, but cold rain is oof, haha! Sourcing my gold stars!
Elisabeth
Yay! Gold stars are not mandatory…but they sure do make it more satisfying 🙂
NGS
I’m going to take a photo of at least one of my walks every day and do a weekly roundup of walks. Think: lots of photos of Hannah looking utterly disgusted at me for bothering her, rivers, and trees. And then I’ll link back to you!!
Elisabeth
Yay! If you send some photos my way (or a collage) at some point I’ll do a rundown at the end of the month. I’m excited. I can’t wait to see what all you and Hannah see on the walks. And any photo with Hannah – regardless of how disgruntled she may try to look – is near canine perfection.
sarah
love it so much!! GREAT idea 🙂 Totally in.
Elisabeth
Yay! Welcome to the “club”…
Colleen Martin
I am here for this! Heading out on a walk right now 🙂
Elisabeth
Best response possible <3
Sabine
Not a blogger, but I am also joining for a walk…or 30…Rather 29 as I already had a major fail on April 1 (travel day by car), but to my defense I had not read your blog before April 2.
I will send you a picture with tulips from yesterday’s walk. I prefer to go by myself (hoping to rest my mind or at least not to stress about things/life), but one of my kids joined last evening.
Elisabeth
Yay! Glad to have you joining in – you can e-mail pictures to optimisticmusings7{at}gmail{dot}com
Melissa
I’m late to the party, but luckily, I walk or run every day anyway and have done so since Monday. Count me in.
Elisabeth
Glad to have you 🙂

Well I am VERY behind on this one! I looked at my fitness app and it says I have only walked for 11 days this month (and, to be completely honest, one day I recorded two separate walks), but that’s a start at least! I need this motivation, even though the month is half over!
Elisabeth
I feel like you are likely fitting in a lot of steps throughout your day!! Spoiler alert: I’m planning to do this again in October if you’re so inclined…
