I feel like I need David Attenborough narrating a little intro for me.
Ah, the teenage girl. A fascinating creature of extraordinary complexity. One moment, affectionate and charming. The next, deeply offended by the sound of her mother’s breathing.
Her tastes are highly specific, her preferences subject to change without warning, and her natural habitat is often littered with expensive skincare products and laundry left inside out.
Scientists have yet to determine why a particular water bottle can inspire such fierce devotion, or how a single sweatshirt can possibly cost more than a week’s groceries.
Her communication patterns remain something of a mystery. She may respond to a simple question with a lengthy monologue. Or, more commonly, an eye roll.
And yet, beneath this formidable exterior, we discover a surprisingly delightful creature. Especially when presented with the correct offering.
Approach with caution. Preferably bearing snacks. And a Sephora gift card.
CAN ANYONE ELSE WITH A TEEN GIRL RELATE???????
Belle and I sat down to brainstorm the best Christmas gifts for teen girls, and these were her top suggestions (with a few extra suggestions from yours truly).

1. Gift Cards/Cash | $10 (for the reusable gift card holder)
My kids love getting money they can spend how they see fit. Gift cards to Starbucks and Sephora are always a HUGE hit with Belle; cold hard cash works, too.
I thought this gift card holder was a lot of fun! And it would make a fun item of room decor after the holidays are over.
2. Ukulele | $40
This is a fun, inexpensive way to make music. Belle bought a ukulele years ago, and while I will admit it mostly sits up on a shelf, I think it’s a great addition to any teen’s entertainment options.
Here’s an affordable ukulele with great ratings (I think this might be the exact one Belle purchased?).
3. Just One | $25
For any frugal readers, you can easily play this game without buying the official version. That’s exactly what we do! We sit around in a circle and prepare our own prompts, specific to the person who’s going to be guessing.
But I can see the appeal of having suggestions at the ready. In that case, here’s the game!
This is one of our favourite games to play as a family, and it’s become a beloved Christmas tradition. Fun and hilarious!
4. Birkenstocks | $118
Belle has both the Birkenstock Arizonas and the Birkenstock Bostons and loves and wears both of them ALL the time.
They are an investment, but they’re such high quality, and footwear is one place where it usually pays to spend more.
She’d likely want you to know she paid for both pairs of her Birks with her own money, but she certainly wouldn’t have said no to receiving them as a gift.

5. Owala Water Bottle | $30
Move over, Stanleys. The Owala seems to be the must-have water bottle of the last few seasons. I guess the appeal is that you can sip AND suck?
Belle received an Owala water bottle as a gift and has absolutely. loved. it. They come in so many fun colour combinations, too.
6. Volleyball | $33
Every single teen girl I know seems to be obsessed with volleyball.
If you’ve got a volleyball enthusiast on your shopping list, a quality volleyball might be just the ticket. At a higher price point, Mikasa is the gold standard. The V330W is designed for regular competition, the V200W is the Olympic volleyball and the BV550C is the beach volleyball option.
7. Lululemon Dance Studio Pants | $128
Such a classic and beloved by teen girls (and lots of their mothers).
Belle tells me that the Lululemon Dance Studio Pants are comfortable, and from my perspective, they’re very versatile and seem to be perpetually in style.
8. Lululemon Swiftly Tech T-Shirt | $49
Belle has owned a few of these over the years, mostly purchased secondhand.
But she was gifted a Lululemon gift card for her birthday, bought a new Swiftly Tech T-shirt, and wore it constantly during our European adventures!
These t-shirts are lightweight, comfortable, and excellent quality.

9. The Game of Things | $30
Another game that doesn’t require you to buy the official version to play (you can come up with the prompts yourself).
But having played it both ways, I will admit it’s very nice not to have to think up ideas and to have all the prompts ready to go.
The Game of Things is hilarious and a lot of fun with a group.
10. Rare Beauty Blush | $25
This is a hot-ticket makeup item. Belle doesn’t actually own it yet, but she’s used it before and insisted it deserved a spot on this list.
One of my nieces uses Rare Beauty blush as her go-to (in the shade Happy). For a less expensive alternative, e.l.f. has created a quasi-dupe with their Camo line, which is what I use and it only costs $9 a tube.
11. Bubble Skincare Set | $70 (6-piece Hydrating Super Set)
These products are so much fun! The pastel colours are cheerful, but my favourite part is how the packaging dispenses products in such entertaining ways.
Belle owns quite a few Bubble skincare products (again, all purchased with her own money), and this was another item she said deserved space on the list.
A Bubble set would make a fun gift for a teen girl who enjoys great skincare and the aesthetic of whimsical product packaging.
12. Curling Iron | $60
This item is set to show up under the tree at our house this year!
Belle has used this curling iron at a friend’s house and loved the results. (I also know Suzanne and her teen daughter have given this particular curling iron an enthusiastic endorsement.)
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE heatless overnight curls in our household, but it’s nice to have a heated option for last-minute hair needs.

13. Jellycats | Prices vary
Belle took an adorable little Jellycat to Europe. She’d found it in like-new condition on the sidewalk (someone must have dropped it!), and it accompanied her on almost our entire trip.
Sadly, somewhere near the end of our adventures, it disappeared.
So a replacement Jellycat is on her Christmas list this year.
They really are precious, though the price tag can sometimes be eye-watering.
Here’s the link to Jellycat’s Amazon storefront.
14. AirPods | $200
I have owned and loved my AirPods Pro for YEARS with no issues. John, on the other hand, had no end of problems with his.
Belle inherited his old AirPods, and despite a few glitches she continues to use them all the time. But she desperately needs an upgrade.
Despite having a technophile father who loves headphones and could source her a great set for less money, she’s insisting only the Apple product will do.
Sigh.
AirPods are likely to be a hit for anyone else with a brand-loyal teen on their shopping list.
15. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask | $33
Another hot beauty product with a cult-like following at this point.
The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask comes in lots of different “flavours” and makes a fun gift for a skincare-obsessed teen.
16. Adidas Sneakers | $110 (for the Spezials)
Belle has a few pairs of Adidas shoes: one thrifted (Sambas), and another purchased for her birthday when we were in Austria (Spezials).
Adidas shoes are clearly a favourite with our teen.

17. Bubble Letter Necklace | $10
Belle wears this stacked necklace set almost every single day, and it has held up SO well. For $10!!
For a relatively inexpensive piece of jewelry, I’ve been impressed with how much use she’s gotten out of it.
Here’s the exact bubble letter necklace she owns. 10/10 recommend.
18. Letterboard | $14
We bought ours at Dollarama, but this letterboard is comparable.
It’s a fun way for teens to personalize their rooms, display favourite quotes, or do a countdown to Christmas!! Or, in Belle’s case, write out Taylor Swift’s back catalogue of album titles!
19. Nike Socks | $19
These remain all the rage. I never thought I’d see the day when socks were a highly desirable gift for TEENS (aren’t socks the cliché lame gift??), but here we are.
A pack of Nike socks is a practical gift that could actually generate some excitement on Christmas morning. Both my teen girl and tween boy love these socks.
20. Aritzia Sweater | $95
I just about choked when I saw the price tag on Aritzia clothing, but there’s no denying that the pieces Belle owns are very high quality and exceptionally warm.
She has three sweatshirts and two pairs of joggers (again, all of which she bought for herself*)… and wants more Aritzia merch.
Clearly, she’s a fan.
Here’s an Aritzia sweater to consider.
*Here’s a little rundown of how we handle allowance, saving, and spending with our tween and teen.
Your turn!
- Do you have a teenage girl in your life? What’s at the top of her wish list this year?
- What’s one gift you’ve given a teen that was a HUGE hit? (And, while we’re at it, any memorable flops?)
- Are you a fan of giving cash and gift cards, or do you prefer to wrap up something tangible?
