(In case you missed it, I also have 20 ideas for men, based on my husband’s recommendations.)

1. Heated Foot Mat | $30
My #1 issue in the winter is being cold, and the absolute worst culprit is my feet.
Our basement office can get very chilly. Even though we have a portable space heater, having my feet on the relatively uninsulated flooring is a recipe for cold toes.
Enter this heated foot mat.
If it broke tomorrow, I would instantly replace it. That’s how much I love this thing.
You can turn it on and off with a touch of your foot (I LOVE that everything can be controlled without having to bend down; what can I say… I’m just that lazy). There are several different heat settings, and it should surprise no one that I always put mine on the highest setting.
2. Candle Warmer | $22
This is a new addition to our household, but we really like it already. (I gifted it to John earlier this month for his birthday, so I can’t personally speak to its longevity yet, but it has great reviews.)
Back to the matter at hand. It’s a candle warmer! ZERO flames are involved, but you still get the wonderful scent of candles. (I’m quite sensitive to artificial scents, so I have to be very, very careful about which candles we buy and use.)
This candle warmer uses a small heat bulb to warm the wax. (It comes with two bulbs, so you have a spare.) It also provides soft lighting, and there’s a timer function so you can set it to turn on/off at specified times.
In other words, it’s practical AND pretty.
3. Georg Jensen Candleholders | $270 (3-piece set)
How do I love my Georg Jensen candlesticks? Let me count the ways.
These are CLASSIC Danish design, and I’ll be the first to admit there is no chance I would have shelled out this sort of money for candlesticks.
Thankfully, I have a Danish sister-in-law, and she and my brother graciously gifted us a set years ago.
This trio of candlesticks sits at the center of our dining room table from the beginning of November through to early spring. Lighting them each night is a beloved tradition. We turn down the overhead lights to eat by candlelight, and it’s AMAZING.
Love. Love. Love. Love. Love.
If you’re looking for a timeless, beautiful gift, these Georg Jensen candleholders are truly something special.
Note: IKEA Jubla taper candles fit these holders perfectly. You can buy Georg Jensen candles for a hefty price tag. Skip them! IKEA for the inexpensive win.
4. Bogg Tote Bag | $100
I am a big fan of practical gifts, and a Bogg-style tote bag certainly fits that description.
These bags are so versatile. They’re especially handy for beach days or any situation where you need to haul a whole lot of STUFF.
The material is easy to wipe clean, and I love that you don’t have to worry about getting it wet. But the sturdy, flat bottom is hands-down my favourite feature.
A Bogg-style tote can be put to work in all sorts of situations. I’ve taken mine to church AND to the beach.
Note: Someone gifted me a knock-off bag and it works great, but I don’t have a source for that, so I’m linking to the official Bogg bag.

5. Stanley Water Bottle | $45 (40 oz)
I know, I know. Stanleys are not nearly as popular these days.
But I invested in one years ago, still love it, and have continued using it long after the Owala craze took the world by storm.
I love that it’s leakproof (I can toss it directly into my gym bag and I have never had a single leak over the years). I love the handle. I love that it keeps things cold. I love that it tapers at the bottom so it fits into car cup holders. I love how much water it holds. I love that it’s dishwasher safe.
I own the 40 oz (and drink A LOT of water), but there is also a slightly less expensive 30 oz version ($35).
6. Magic Bags | $35
I talk about these ad nauseam on the blog, but they’re pretty much an extension of my body at this point. (My equivalent of a family pet?!)
No chilly afternoon nap is complete without a piping-hot heated bag at my feet and another one clutched tightly to my chest.
I love that you can pop them in the microwave, and they provide such wonderful, comforting warmth. I grew up using hot water bottles, but I cannot tell you the number of times they ended up leaking. Magic bags are a 10x improvement, in my opinion.
If you know someone who is perpetually cold (ahem), a Magic Bag makes a wonderful gift.
Note: I actually use a local pharmacy’s store brand, but it accomplishes the same thing.
7. Sprouted Planner | $79 (for the year-long weekly)
I have partnered with Heather for over three years now because I truly love her planning products.
Most specifically, I use my Weekly Sprouted Planner every single day.
Space was TIGHT for our extended trip to Europe (almost four months away and a tiny carry-on for each person)… and my Sprouted Planner was deemed important enough to come along on our adventure.
The paper is absolutely top-notch, and there are so many great dashboards and tracking features scattered throughout the planner.
If you know someone who loves planning and organizing their schedule on paper, I highly recommend the Sprouted Planner.
Note: I have an affiliate code with Sprouted: if you follow the link and use code SPROUTED15 at checkout, you’ll get 15% off your order.
8. Revlon Hair Dryer Brush | $38
I know there are much more expensive options out there (I haven’t used it, but I know multiple people who rave about the Drybar version), but Revlon’s hair dryer brush has worked like a charm, and both Belle and I use it regularly.
While I already own a very high-quality, salon-grade blow dryer, I find it such a nuisance to use while wielding a separate brush.
This solves that problem!
I researched several different options and brush sizes, and this Revlon hair dryer brush came out on top.
It’s easy to use, and I love how quickly I can get my hair looking presentable.

9. Electric Callus Remover | $15
Chalk this up under very “adulty” gifts.
(Also, perhaps not something I’d suggest giving a new friend for your first Christmas together.)
I bought this electric callus remover for my parents last year, and they LOVE it and said it works great.
It’s definitely not going to be the most glamorous gift under the tree, but sometimes the practical ones are the most appreciated (by adults at least; mileage will vary with kids!).
10. Scattergories | $50
At this point, I think I’m ready to officially declare that Scattergories is my favourite game to play.
I appreciate the intellectual wit and creativity required, and it’s great for just about anyone in their teens or older.
There is always some lighthearted arguing over what does and doesn’t count (part of the fun for me).
If you have a game lover on your list, Scattergories gets an enthusiastic thumbs-up from me.
11. Weighted Blanket | $40
I cycle through periods of using my weighted blanket, but I’m back in the habit of using it each night, and I really do find it helps me get to sleep AND stay asleep.
There’s something incredibly comforting about the gentle pressure when I’m settling in for the night.
A weighted blanket is a lovely gift for someone who enjoys being cozy or tends to be restless in bed.
Note: Make sure you pay attention to the weight recommendations, which are usually based on body size.
12. Crocs | $31
My goodness, we love Crocs.
They are so versatile (and kind of ugly, in terms of fashion, I know).
They can get wet. They have great tread. They seem to last forever.
I know Crocs aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but they have certainly earned their place in our household. We use them as indoor shoes, and John recently found a pair of thrifted loafer-style Crocs, which seem equally wonderful.

13. Goodr Sunglasses | $30
In just about every picture where I’m wearing sunglasses… I’m wearing a pair of Goodrs.
They’re lightweight, relatively inexpensive, and offer great UV protection.
They’re also great for exercise, as they don’t slip like a lot of other sunglasses do.
I have the original style, but Goodr sunglasses come in a lot of different shapes, sizes, and colours.
Note: My favourite style is Vincent’s Absinthe Night Terrors. Quite a name, I know…
14. Insulated 1-Gallon Water Jug | $36
This is a practical gift we’ve owned for years. (I actually gifted it to John.)
We fill it with ice cubes, add water, and it stays cold for SO long.
It has a very wide mouth, but there’s also a small independent pour spout, so ice cubes don’t come tumbling out when you want a drink.
If you’re shopping for someone who spends a lot of time outdoors, this insulated water jug is a great option.
Tip: Fill a plastic cup with water and freeze it. Once frozen, heat the bottom of the cup with a bit of warm water to release the ice, and then use it as a giant ice cube. This is a trick I learned from my sister, who has a similar bottle. Giant ice cubes work extra well!
15. Maple Syrup Candle | $39 (2-pack)
This is our go-to candle. To burn in our house AND to give as gifts.
Funny story: For years, I gave one of these to the kids’ teachers at Christmas. One year, a teacher told me it was her favourite gift and how much she loved it.
A few weeks later, I saw her house up for sale, and when I looked at the online pictures… guess what candle was prominently displayed on a table?
THIS ONE!
Suffice it to say, this maple syrup candle has a pretty good track record in our gift-giving department.
Note: These candles can be purchased with either a traditional or wooden wick; I usually opt for the wood because it makes a nice crackling sound as it burns!
16. Blundstone Boots | $220
We are a family of secondhand shoppers. Almost all our clothing items come from thrift stores.
One exception is certain footwear.
Blundstones are not cheap, but we have purchased six or more pairs (new) at this point.
They have a great warranty (John had a recurring issue with a particular wear pattern, and they replaced his boots), but I’ve had my pair for almost a decade, and Belle’s have lasted her years.
If you’re looking for a bigger-ticket gift, I wholeheartedly recommend Blundstone boots. They’re also incredibly versatile—they look great with jeans and a chunky sweater, but also fit right in on an outdoorsy hike. When we went to Europe, the kids and John each took a pair of sneakers and a pair of Blundstones as their alternating main options for footwear.

17. Dohm White Noise Machine | $50
Confession time. I’m a high-maintenance sleeper.
I MUST have an eye mask.
I MUST have a thin pillow.
I MUST have bare feet (how do people sleep in socks????).
And I MUST have white noise.
We have two of these Dohm white noise machines in our home: one on my bedside table and one in the guest room. (If I ever have problems sleeping, I go to the guest bed… and I need white noise there, too.)
There are two different speed settings, and you can adjust the pitch of the white noise by spinning the dome to a different position.
Our Dohm white noise machines have been used for years, and I can’t imagine sleeping without one.
18. Wooden Salad Bowl | $70
This is such a classic household item.
We found ours at a thrift store for a few dollars, and I’d encourage people to look there first.
There’s something timeless about a beautiful wooden salad bowl. It’s practical, looks lovely on the table, and never really goes out of style.
If you can’t find one secondhand, this wooden bowl caught my eye.
19. Bagsmart Hanging Toiletry Bag | $13
I LOVE this thing. (And clearly so do other people: it has 4.8 stars with 65,000 reviews.)
I bought it ahead of our trip to Europe and was so impressed by the quality.
It holds so many things, the zippers are high quality, and it kept everything wonderfully organized for me.
I even sent it with Indy when he went to overnight camp, and other parents commented on what a great idea it was! (It helped him corral all his toiletries and could simply hang off the side of his bunk bed.)
The Bagsmart hanging toiletry bag gets a 10/10 recommendation from me.
20. Anker Bluetooth Speaker | $30
This now lives in Belle’s room (but I originally bought it for John).
She uses it to listen to audiobooks every single night. The speaker connects to her phone, which charges in our room overnight
We’ve used this for years, and it works so well!
An Anker Bluetooth speaker is a great gift for someone who loves music, podcasts, or audiobooks.
It’s one of those practical little electronics that gets more use than you might expect.
And there you have it! Twenty gift ideas for the women in your life (or perhaps a little inspiration for your own Christmas wish list).
As always, I think the best gifts are the ones that actually get used. Some of my favourite things on this list aren’t particularly glamorous, but they’ve earned their place in our home because they make everyday life just a little bit better.
Your turn:
- What’s one gift you’ve received that you still use and love years later?
- Are you someone who likes practical gifts, or do you prefer receiving things you wouldn’t necessarily buy for yourself?
- What’s on YOUR Christmas wish list this year? I’m always looking for new ideas!
