About the midway point of our trip, Indy got into the habit of striking a tree pose in various and sundry locations. (I will admit I wish this tradition had started on Day One! Woulda, shoulda, coulda.)
Those tree pose pictures were interspersed in and around all the other photos from our grand adventure, and Birchie said it would be fun to see a roundup of all the different places he got his yogi on.
Today, her wish is finally my command.
VENICE, ITALY
Venice holds the distinction of being the very first documented tree pose of the trip AND the only one captured at night. (Here’s more about our time in Venice.)

HELSINKI, FINLAND
It didn’t take long for the tree poses to become a permanent fixture in our days.

Of course he had to pose in front of Helsinki Cathedral (arguably the most iconic view in the city).

There were lots of tree poses at local parks.

He took a break from rollercoasters to strike a pose at amusement park Linnanmäki!

There were a lot of tree poses on the island of Suomenlinna.

What’s a tween supposed to do while (impatiently) waiting for the metro to arrive one morning? If you’re this particular tween, the answer is find somewhere to balance and do a tree pose.

Once, he literally climbed a tree before striking a pose. Bonus points for that one…

TALLINN, ESTONIA
Clearly it was a bit chilly at this point in the day! (Here’s the rundown of our day trip to Tallinn.)

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND
He struck a pose after a delicious dinner with friends at Edinburgh Street Food.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
This marks the one and only tree pose performed mid-air; this was at a park close to my brother’s home in Copenhagen. (Indy had lots of pent-up energy after a 7+ hour commute from Stockholm to Denmark via train!)

Another day, another tree pose. This time, in the Royal Library Garden.

Nothing says colourful backdrop like Nyhavn!

The red buildings of Kastellet are pretty darn colourful, too.

At the Viking Museum in Roskilde, Indy struck his one and only tree pose in a costume.

Never mind the fact that he was standing outside a gorgeous cathedral… Indy was more concerned about finding precarious places to balance.

Success!

Why not use a prehistoric stone dolmen for your foundation?

CARDIFF, WALES
Or, at a playground in Wales, a teetering swing…

This reproduction of a siege weapon outside Caerphilly Castle did the trick.

One of our final adventures on the trip was a half-day spent at St Fagan’s; the visit was capped off with a tree pose, of course.

And that’s a wrap. There are lots of missing adventures, but Indy’s tree poses became a fun talking point throughout the trip!
Your turn.
- How’s your balance: above average, average, or below average? I’d classify myself as average?
- Do you have a signature pose you strike in vacation photos? When I was a teen I met a teacher who used to travel with a class “mascot” and take pictures wherever he went.

YESSSSSS!!!!! This week has gotten off to an excellent start!!!! If there’s no photo of a tree pose, then Indy wasn’t there. It’s basically his equivalent of a passport stamp.
Our only photo gimmick is that the boys always used to make faces when we would take family photos, and I always loved seeing what they came up with.
Haha! I love the idea of this being Indy’s passport. My only regret is not starting this habit on Day One. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Next trip!!!
I have a few years of wacky faces in most photos of the kids. It has made for some interesting photobooks.
This is an amazing collection! Yes, bonus points for the tree pose in a tree. You should make a collage of these do be displayed in your home.
I would say my balance is slightly above average, but only because I work at it. Some of the exercises I do involve balancing on one leg. PSA- everyone should work on their balance as they get older! Otherwise it can really decline and cause all sorts of issues (like falling, which is a huge risk for elderly people!) We should all take a page from Indy’s book and start doing tree poses everywhere.
I know that the balance is a huge marker for overall health and longevity (that rise to stand test is shockingly useful, I think, in determining mobility).
Indy is a lot more flexible than me, that’s for sure… especially since he started using the trampoline. It is INSANE the tricks he can do now.
What a great roundup of photos! What a talent Indy has. I would say I have okay balance but not the best. I do work on it with stretches and tree pose is one I do. I am on firm ground at all times usually with a wall nearby LOL!
Agreed! I don’t mind trying to balance, but I feel a lot better if there’s a firm structure nearby just in case.
I really love the one in front of the Helsinki Cathedral, but of course there are several where the balancing part was more of a challenge! I have okay balance when it comes to yoga but am completely clumsy when it comes to walking or running! I do like collections of things, and have several photo collections that I should post at some point!
It is a lot of fun to pull together pictures of a common theme! I’m really glad we ended up settling on this pose (better late than never), and Indy really leaned into it!!
this is darling
Indy has such great balance! Love seeing all of his poses!
