Iโm hoping to get a Happy Things Friday post up this week because, as you can imagine, my gratitude list is quite long right now.
At the very top: everyone is healthy, and we are officially on European soil. We can hardly believe it’s actually happening after months of planning and logistics.
A huge thank-you to everyone whoโs been emailing and texting to check in and make sure we arrived safely.
CONFIRMED. We made it.
If you’d like a sneak peek at our adventures so far, I just posted a short update with pictures on Patreon (not paywalled!):

Yes, it includes a sweet photo of the kids. And yes, I can confirm that sibling rivalries and a respectable amount of teen angst also cleared passport control without incident.
Now excuse me while I head off to explore more of Munich!
If youโve been in Munich before: Whatโs one thing we absolutely shouldnโt miss?

Fanastic! Enjoy Mรผnchen! I see that you have perfect weather for sightseeing, too!
Can’t wait to hear about all your adventures. One thing that always impresses me about Germany are all the bakeries and the amazing BREAD!
I can confirm that the bread is delicious!
You made it!!! I missed saying safe travels last week but I’m so glad you got here okay. I hope it’s a great time so far!
Oh hooray!!!! I’ve been thinking about you guys. How exciting! Munich- I’ve been there several times, and have very fond memories. I guess you won’t be sitting with the kids in beer gardens? I’m sure you’ll do all the cool things (museums etc.) I can’t wait to hear all about it!!!
Glad you made it! Enjoy Munich!! Hope the weather has been mild and sunny for you. Itโs 12 and sunny here today and last night I told the baby โDonโt come out until at least Wednesday. I NEED to be outside in the sun and warmth not in the hospital.โ lol
Ha. I hope the baby proves to be an excellent listener even while in utero. I am so glad for the sunshine in Canada and hope it’s a wonderful spring.
Yay, you made it. What an exciting time for your family. I look forward to all of the photos and words to come.
So good to know! Iโve been praying for you since you left, and it is always reassuring to hear that prayers were answered.
Awww. Thanks so much <3
Hooray! You are in Europe!
Munichโฆ I actually lived there for six months as an infant, so no memories of being there, but Iโm guessing I did a lot of eating, sleeping, and riding in a stroller. Hope you do at least two of those things ๐
I think a stroller tour of the city sounds… blissful. After days of lots of walking my feet are SORE!
Yay! I have been thinking about y’all a lot the last few days ๐ Love the pics over on Patreon too!
Enjoy ๐
Woot! I hope you’re having a blast!
Welcome on European soil!
Next time I visit Munich I have Julius Brantner’s bakery on my list because they let their bread rest for a longer time. It results in more complex flavour that you cannot get with more commercial bakeries. If I remember correctly they have huge windows into the work area of their shops.
Have a look beforehand at some pictures here:

There are great reels on Brantner’s Instagram – no links because I’m not active there anymore.
Also check out the Hygiene-Museum.
Thanks so much for this suggestion! I read your comment and a few hours later we literally happened to pass by this bakery and got some fresh pretzels and they were out of this world delicious!!!! I would never have known to stop without your prompting. 10/10 recommend to anyone in Munich.
So glad to hear you made it safe and sound, Elisabeth. Let the adventures begin ๐
Yay! Youโre there, have an amazing time!
I loved Munich, but I turned 21 there, so that was a LONG time ago. Great to heat that you made it safe and I chuckled at all the ‘extras’ that cleared customs with your passports. ๐
Oh yes, angst is alive and well in Europe, too.
Maybe of interest: Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm im Englischen Garten. Viktualienmarkt. Lenbachhaus. Climb the St. Peter church tower. Day trips to Salzburg und Herrenchiemsee (only do the latter if the weather is good) – both easily done by train.
We went to Viktualienmarkt and climbed Turm Alter Peter (the views were spectacular). Thanks for the recommendations ๐ I debated doing Salzburg but we are going to do a LOT of day trips to Vienna, so we ended up staying put.
Welcome to Europe! Glad to have you here! Looking forward to following all the adventures ๐
I’ve never been to Germany, so I can’t wait to hear more about it!! I hope you are having the best time already!!! Loved all the pics you shared in the other post!!
Yay! Eat a big salty pretzel ๐ฅจ Theyโre delicious in Munich!
I did and they were! Fresh pretzels are a carby delight ๐
Hooray! Welcome to the start of your big European adventure. I am so excited to follow along!
I’m so happy your travels were safe, and there weren’t any incidents at passport control. LOL!!
We were crossing every appendage.
