Another day, more lighthouses. (See here and here.)
I’m running out of anecdotes energy. If I don’t have anything to say about a particular stop, I’ll just post pictures!
Hampton Lighthouse

Horton Bluff Light

Jerome Point Lighthouse

We ate a picnic here at the start of our Cape Breton adventures.
Margaree Harbour Range Front Lighthouse

Medway Head Lighthouse

Neils Harbour Lighthouse (or, The Lighthouse Ice Cream Parlour)

A lighthouse repurposed as an ice cream parlour that was, sadly, in the off season when we visited.
Northern Light & Alarm (or, Grand Passage Lighthouse)

Pictou Bar Lighthouse

I think this was a visitor centre? I know it wasn’t a functional lighthouse, but that didn’t stop us from taking a picture!
Point Prim Lighthouse

Port George Lighthouse

Port Medway Lighthouse

Sambro Island

Sambro Lighthouse is the oldest standing/operating lighthouse in the Americas! We’ve only seen it from afar, but we’re keen to get a closer look.

Sandy Point

Victoria Beach Lighthouse

Wallace Harbour Sector (Front Range) Lighthouse

Walton Harbour Lighthouse

Western Head Lighthouse

We’ve visited Western Head many times; the kids really enjoy climbing on the rocks and, on windy days, the waves are incredible!

Schafner Point Lighthouse

Growing up, I could look out my bedroom window and see this lighthouse at the bottom of my driveway! The last time we visited it was under renovation.
Bonus:

How could I forget some of our LEGO lighthouses?

And this house that was designed to look like a lighthouse.
Phew. That’s a wrap!
Your turn.
- Imagine you’re coming to me in Nova Scotia and we can visit two of the lighthouses from this post; which ones would you choose?

Medway Head and Sambro Island intrigue me the most. Such a variety of lighthouses- you definitely have a lot to showcase in NS!
PS- I hope I could see the Lego lighthouses if I came for a visit, regardless of where rose I visit. They’re really cute!
Elisabeth
We are actually big LEGO dismantlers, so since those we just fun designs Indy did, they lived on the shelf for a while but then were taken apart to make way for more creations!
I would love to make it out to Sambro Island. I read a newspaper report of someone a few years ago who chartered a helicopter and got married out there!
Nicole MacPherson
The Lego lighthouse! That’s so cute.
What a GREAT photo of Belle, I can see why it’s your favourite!
I never thought before how there are lighthouses on every beach but of course – that makes sense! People needed to see where they were going!
Elisabeth
There were soooo many shipwrecks in this part of the world which is utterly tragic (can you even imagine), so it really warms my heart to think of the thousands and thousands of lives that have been saved by the humble lighthouses of Nova Scotia.
Jenny
Ooh, I like Sambro Island! The lighthouse looks far away and mysterious. And, Horton Bluff- there’s something melancholy and nostalgic about it. All your photos are beautiful!
Elisabeth
There are now chartered boats that will take visitors to Sambro Island so…stay tuned. Maybe that will be one of our summer adventures?!
Bijoux
Medway looks like an amazing location and I enjoyed seeing just how long some of the lightkeepers remained at their post. And of course, I’d love to get some ice cream inside a lighthouse!
Elisabeth
I have a special place in my heart for Medway. I still remember the picnic lunch we enjoyed there and I loved that sign!
Suzanne
As usual these photos are gorgeous and make me want to pack up my family and move to Nova Scotia immediately!
The anti-submarine bunker is cool and kind of eerie. The scenery near the bunker and looking out at Sambro Island is so wild and beautiful.
Ernie
Hmm, hard to choose. I’d be interested in seeing the one out in the middle of the water. That’d be an adventure. I also like the Medway one with the dedication. And the Port George one, because it seems like great scenery/hikes surrounding it.
That is a super sweet photo of Belle. I’m not surprised it’s one of your favorites. So cute.
Lisa's Yarns
I can’t pick which ones I would want to visit. They are all so beautiful and unique. I can’t get over how many lighthouses there are in your region!! And I love all the flashback photos of the kids!!

I love all of these lighthouses, and I can’t possibly choose which ones to visit. You’ll have to decide for me! I love all the different shapes and sizes, just like people. Each one is unique and beautiful. I want to draw them all!
