Some of you must be wondering how long I can keep this series going. I have no idea! But one thing is very clear to me at this point — there are A LOT of things I have never done. Including:
- Beaten a video game. (To be fair, I almost never play video games, which definitely makes it harder to beat them.)
- Used a chainsaw.
- Hiked on a glacier. (I’ve never even seen one in person.)
- Tried cupping therapy.
- Gone on a silent retreat. (This sounds dreamy after a full summer at home with the kids.)
- Done a “Dine and Dash” at a restaurant.
- Spent a night in jail. (Thank goodness.)
- Carried a picture in my wallet.
- Made homemade soap.
- Eaten durian.
Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 5. Part 6. Part 7. Part 8. Part 9. Part 10. Part 11.
You know the drill!
- How many of my Never Evers have you done?
- Does anyone currently have photos in their wallet?
- Is anyone willing to admit to “dining and dashing”?

Haha, I can’t picture any of your readers “dine-and-dashing,” but let’s see what happens in the comments!
I’ve hiked on a glacier here in Switzerland. We were roped together with a guide because the big danger is falling into a crevasse (they’re sneaky and hard to spot under the snow). It was an incredible experience!
I imagine Canada must have plenty of glaciers where you could try something similar?
I also can’t imagine anyone having done this but…it would be fascinating to hear the story.
No glaciers anywhere near where I live, but perhaps sometime when I finally make it out west!
I haven’t done any of these things either. I had to google “dining and dashing.” I’m a hard no on that.
It gives me the willies just to think about doing this! I’m not surprised you’ve never done it!
Only one for me this time, but I’m impressed that you keep coming up with these lists.
Beaten a video game – No, like you I rarely play video games
Used a chainsaw – not yet, but would really like to have a go
Hiked on a glacier. (I’ve never even seen one in person.) – sounds too cold for me 😀
Tried cupping therapy – no
Gone on a silent retreat – no and I’m not sure that it appeals to me. I work from home most days and apart from the noises outside, it is generally in silence.
Done a “Dine and Dash” at a restaurant – wouldn’t dream of it!
Spent a night in jail – nope and really don’t want to
Carried a picture in my wallet – when I was younger I used to carry a picture of my (then) fiancé.
Made homemade soap – yes and it turned out okay. It was a melt base and add your own perfume and colour. Not something that I wanted to carry on with as I already have too many hobbies!
Eaten durian – no
I count two here, Stacey! You did the picture thing, and made soap.
I will admit making my own soap doesn’t appeal to me, but I can see doing it in a group setting with friends might be fun? Who knows. Maybe I’d be hooked!!! At this point, I’d rather use flex time like that to read 😉
I used a chainsaw. We had a big tree go down in our yard in a storm, and my husband and I had to clear it. It fell between the house and garage, and one of our cars was underneath the branches. I only did a little, for fun. I mostly used the pruners and and hauled branches while he did a lot. A handyman came to help and take it all away.
I used to have tons of pictures in my wallet- my kids were/are adorable! But I don’t carry a wallet anymore- just a phone case with my cards, etc. I gave up purses once I didn’t have to bring so much kid necessities along.
I’ve lost most video games I’ve played ( which isn’t many). I only could win if other people helped. Now most video games make me nauseated. I tried my kids’ VR headgear thing- I lasted 5 seconds.
I don’t think I could do a silent retreat- I like quiet, but I’d start getting twitchy. I need sonething external to drown out my own thoughts.
Eeks. That sounds scary. I hope your car emerged unscathed?
Video games don’t appeal to me in the least. When the Wii was so popular I played that a few times, but was never very good and I’m quite content to not participate. Usually, if the kids (and it’s only ever Indy) is playing a video game it means I have some quiet to do my own thing.
Beaten a video game. (To be fair, I almost never play video games, which definitely makes it harder to beat them.) – Nope. I think I’ve attempted to play a video game once and found it awful and boring.
Used a chainsaw. – Nope. I’ve watched my husband do it a lot though.
Hiked on a glacier. (I’ve never even seen one in person.) – sort of? I’ve been to the Mendenhall glacier in Alaska and we didn’t go on it, but we did hike near the base of it.
Tried cupping therapy. – nope
Gone on a silent retreat. (This sounds dreamy after a full summer at home with the kids.) – nope
Done a “Dine and Dash” at a restaurant. – definitely not!!
Spent a night in jail. (Thank goodness.) – thankfully no
Carried a picture in my wallet. – I don’t think so
Made homemade soap. – ok so I originally read this as soup and my mind was blown and I thought “But she’s posted about making soup? Right?!” then my eyes started working correctly and it all made more sense. I have make both homemade soup and soap.
Eaten durian. – Nope and I never want to as the descriptions of it don’t sound appealing to me. I recently read a magazine article about durian and the people who travel the world in search of the perfect durian. It was interesting but the descriptions of things like “This one tastes like old socks mixed with chocolate and fish.”did nothing to make me want to try it. I’m glad it’s enjoyed by many though! Different strokes for different folks etc.
Ha! Soup WOULD be confusing since I make soup quite frequently.
Those descriptions are doing nothing toward making me want to try durian, either! I suspect if I tried it once that would be enough. Kinda like how I feel about Dr. Pepper! (Though I suspect durian is a much more acquired taste than a sugary soft drink.)
Lol, who is going to admit to dining and dashing? I’ll be interested to hear that and also who has spent a night in the slammer! Maybe things are wilder than we think! The only things I’ve done on your list is carried a photo in my wallet and hiked on a glacier.
I was hoping someone would have a story (even tangentially) about dining and dashing! I know someone who has dined and dashed, but I’m not sure if they would want me to divulge that information on the interwebs 😉
The truck of the tree nicked the corner of the garage and fell next to the car. Only some scratches on house and car! The garage went a little skew, but it was structurally sound- the door wouldn’t close but we could still use it. Which we did for eight years until he finally built a new one! I think it was fairly miraculous that we got away with no real damage- it was a huge maple.
Eeks. What a relief. Trees can cause such serious damage, so to emerge relatively unscathed is a miracle.
You’ve never dined and dashed??? Well, I know what we’re doing this weekend!
(jk…I never have and never would, I just wanted to brag that we’ll be hanging out this weekend)
The only thing that I’ve done off this list is to carry a picture in my wallet, but that ended when the digital age started. The equivalent today is the Google photos app on my phone.
I’d be down for a silent retreat, just not during my time in NS.
YES! We could knock that out of the park right away when you come to NS. Nothing says tourist adventure like breaking the law.
On second thought, let’s NOT and just enjoy our time together free from risk of arrest.
It’s good to know I haven’t been fraternizing with a criminal all these years! *wink*
Not quite dine and dash but recently we used a gift card to pay for dinner and had a leftover balance to pay out of pocket, which meant that when I chose a percentage to tip, it was coming off of the $5 remaining balance! Thankfully I had cash to remedy the problem – but not before walking halfway to the car and then sheepishly walking back in to find our server and adequately compensate him.
I used to carry pictures in my wallet in high school. It was popular at the time to take pictures with friends at a studio in the mall called Star Shots and for $20, split between a few friends usually, they would print you (a lot of) wallet sized pictures that you could distribute to your friend group. I feel like that could almost be a nostalgic thing to bring back at this point!
I’ve never been inside a photo booth and taken photo booth photos before. I’m wondering if I’ve written that down as a Never Have I Ever? I’ll have to check. It sounds so fun and quaint and definitely seems to be coming back into vogue again.
I’ve eaten durian and did a post on it. My DIL, who grew up in China, always had durian as a dessert. To me, it smells like penicillin, but it tasted pretty good. I always carried pictures in my wallet, but don’t anymore. It was a way to show people pictures of your kids, etc. before cell phones.
Smells like penicillin? Ick! Also, how specific! But I’m glad to hear the smell didn’t match the taste. I would like to try it once just to say I’ve had it, but I suspect that would be plenty for my lifetime.
Well, I’m disappointed that so far none of the commenters have dined and dashed or spent a night in jail. Boy, are we a boring group! I’ve done two of these- carried a photo in my wallet (when the kids were little) and eaten durian. Well, at least I’ve tried it- they have a weird taste!
Now having written about well over 100 things I’ve never done, I’ve fully accepted I am VERY boring. There are worse things to be in life! I’ll gladly sit inside and read my book, thank you very much.
I have actually beaten a video game, many ages ago … my brother had a Gameboy way back when, and had SuperMario for it. He didn’t like it as much as other games, but I made my way through that entire beast. (He was not nearly as impressed as I was, lol)
I’ve also made homemade soap! That’s actually something Mr and I are looking into doing more of in the future, especially if/when we get our beekeeping back in order 🙂
Well, I’M impressed. Great job beating SuperMario. What a classic game that was.
My parents are friends with someone who is a retired nurse and now makes and sells homemade soaps and creams and lip balm. It’s all hypoallergenic and she absolutely loves it. It does sound like a relaxing (and productive – we all need to bathe!) hobby.
The only thing I’ve done from this list is have a pictue in my wallet and that was when I was way younger. Now I use a purse/wallet that does not have room for pictures, so I keep my favorites on my Apple watch face.
And I have not used a chain saw even tho we have one. My husband would cut the wood into logs and I would use the log splitter, which was fun. Now we just purchase our wood already cut, but still have to stack it in the woodshed.
Like you, I HAVE used a wood splitter. My dad uses a chainsaw all the time, but I’ve just always been the one helping assist with that sort of work and never handling the chainsaw. But I’ve spent many hours working alongside him on his property while he uses one!
I am zero for ten on this list too… at least I think. There is a slight chance I have carried a photo around in my wallet in high school that I just don’t remember (but it sounds like something I would have done — one of the photobooth picture strips someone else mentioned).
Definitely have never dined and dashed but *confession* I did steal a pack of gum from a store when I was five. I definitely knew it was wrong too.
I have had a few opportunities to go on a silent retreat but it has never worked out with childcare/work schedules… I think it would be absolutely wonderful!
Doesn’t it sounds wonderful to be somewhere where the whole goal is to be quiet. Then again, maybe I’d hate it? Still, I’d like to try it out for myself and see how it goes 😉
I am also 0/10 out of this list. And, it turns out, I have zero interest in doing any of these things unless making handmade soap is something I do at a fun class surrounded by friends. That does sound like a fun class to take and then someone else would have to clean up the mess!
I can see it being fun to do this sort of thing in a group. And bingo on the cleanup. It does sound like a messy project and I don’t really enjoy welcoming those into my living space!
Beaten a video game. I think no, but I used to kick some A$$ at Ms. Pacman.
Used a chainsaw. Definitely.
Hiked on a glacier. Yup.
Tried cupping therapy. No, and probably won’t.
Gone on a silent retreat. My life is a silent retreat.
Done a “Dine and Dash” at a restaurant. No, and never would.
Spent a night in jail. No, and probably won’t.
Carried a picture in my wallet. Yeah, carried my own photos in case I needed an ID etc. when traveling.
Made homemade soap. No, but would like to.
Eaten durian. Yes, not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
TLDR, this is my worst (best?) one so far; 5/10
I can totally see you trying cupping!
And that’s brilliant to have your own photo in your wallet for ID purposes. We had to have a picture for our metro passes in Paris and I printed them off before we went and it saved so much time (and money).
Well, I haven’t done anything on your list either! I’d never even heard of durian, so I had to look it up. I think I’ll keep it on my never have I ever list!
It’s not something that’s easy to access, so I think I would only pursue trying it if/when I go somewhere it’s common. Everyone keeps saying it tastes better than it smells, which doesn’t inspire much confidence 😉
You know, when I first read the list, I thought #9 was “make homemade soup” and I thought, “That’s bonkers! I thought Elisabeth made lots of soup!” Then I read it again. I clearly need new glasses.
I’ve had durian for the first time in Malaysia last winter. It tastes much better than it smells.
Ha. You’re the second person to think I wrote soup. You are correct that I make lots of soup but, so far in life, no SOAP.
I used to have a wallet with photos in it. I guess that’s not necessary anymore thanks to phones, right? I’ve not done any of the other things. I went on a French immersion weekend when I was in high school – so we could only speak French. For me that translated to a silent weekend, because I was terrible at foreign language, but I don’t think my making a weekend silent for being a terrible French student counts. 😉
That’s hilarious. Yes, I suppose being somewhere where you can’t speak the language is adjacent to a silent retreat, but I think I’d feel so self-conscious and worried I was missing something?
I really want to try cupping… will report back
Not sure what Dining and Dashing means but I’m pretty sue I’ve never done it. Actually there are only two things on your list I have done. Carried pictures in a wallet and I make homemade soup all the time! I can’t believe you don’t, Elisabeth 🙂
You are not the first to think I wrote soup. It was actually homemade SOAP. I make soup multiple times a month, but I’ve never made homemade soap!
Oops, sorry! That makes sense now.
Back in the day, we carried lots of photos in our wallet. Now, they’re all carried in my little computer. (phone) HA
Beaten a video game. I also don’t play those, so no winning.
Used a chainsaw. Nope
Hiked on a glacier. (I’ve never even seen one in person.) Not hiked, but I’ve seen one with my eyes. (New Zealand)
Tried cupping therapy. I think my massage therapist did this ONE time. No recollection of good or bad though.
Gone on a silent retreat. (This sounds dreamy after a full summer at home with the kids.) Nope
Done a “Dine and Dash” at a restaurant. Yes, but not on purpose!!
Spent a night in jail. (Thank goodness.) Not yet!
Carried a picture in my wallet. Yes.
Made homemade soap. Yes.
Eaten durian. I had to google this, but NO THANKS.
I need to know more about “not on purpose”, Suz! Spill the proverbial beans, please!
We had a very large group (10-12 people) for dinner in downtown Naples many years ago, like eighteen years? Twenty?
Our waitress, through no fault of ours was struggling this night. I think she was having an issue with her boss or coworkers. When we asked for our check, well after we were finished, she never came back. We asked another waiter to help us, he said our waitress was in the alley, crying.
The manager was called, and he said our waitress had left, upset about something. Then the manager would not bring us a check. We’d asked several employees, and after more than an hour and a half with no check, we all just left. It was the craziest thing, and today, when I pass that building, I can’t help but remember how weird that night was. That restaurant went defunct not long after our experience and it’s something else now.
So, see, not intentional as we’d never do something like that.
That IS crazy!
These posts are just so fun and I am in awe with how many things you can come up with.
I am working on my second and it is so so hard to fill the spots. Ha!
