We’ve made it to the home stretch. Today marks the last day of our April walking club (can you believe it?). I’ll be back next week with a final recap of the last two days of walking and hopefully some fun roundups from readers!
On that subject…
A request from me: I’d love to know where you’ve been walking – which country or, if you’re in North America, your state or province. I’ll compile all the data into something fun and visual to share next week. Feel free to remain anonymous when you leave a comment if that would make you more comfortable. You do not have to have adhered to daily walking – if you’ve made some attempt to participate, you’re in the club.
ELISABETH’S WALKS

Distance | Company | FIG*
*FIG = a Finding Joy in Gratitude moment
- 22 – 3.21 km | Solo | I enjoyed a fun episode of the Girl Next Door podcast, which had me laughing out loud at several points. Kelsey and Erica lifted my spirits on an overcast, dreary day and made the walk feel a little brighter.
- 23 – 3.41 km | Joy | The volume and variety of birds singing this morning made the walk extra delightful.
- 24 – 1 km | Indy | With Indy home sick from school, we limited things to a short stroll around the neighbourhood. I couldn’t help but smile at the bursts of colour around us, like the Canadian flag hanging from someone’s porch and a bold purple door.
- 25 – 5.14 km | Joy | Indy was sick again (poor kid), and Joy came over to my house so we could walk around my neighbourhood. I’m so grateful for our friendship — we always have such meaningful conversations on our walks together!
- 26 – 1.11 km | Indy | We went to the local library after we were finished getting some groceries to pick up my books on hold. I’m so thankful for public libraries and especially happy that mine is within walking distance.
- 27 – 1.89 km | John | We had a heavy rain overnight and warm temperatures and there were earthworms everywhere. We got up early — before the kiddos were awake — and snuck out for a quick walk in our neighbourhood. In addition to the worms (a sure sign of spring), I appreciated all the birds singing, the mild air, and that John was back in North America!
- 28 – 5.47 km | John | Belle’s cell phone. So far, having a teen with a cell phone is proving to be very helpful. She used it to text me about multiple things and it was both heartwarming and useful! One of her texts was to let me know she had forgotten her gym shoes, so John and I walked by the school to drop those off.
AROUND THE BLOGO(SPHERE)

- San had beautiful, sunny weather in California.
- Sophie made time for daily walks, despite her busy schedule. She even managed to fit in a walk on the beach!
- Michelle shared some scenic views from her walks (look at those gorgeous mountains in the background)!
- Jacquie comes through yet again with mouth-watering dessert pictures. “A couple of photos in honor of Vancouver’s Cherry Blossom Festival and Cherry Blossom Food Festival. The first is a street just around the corner from me that is lined with cherry blossom trees. It’s so pretty when all the trees are in bloom…The second is a festival dessert called Cherry Blossom Croffle. Croffles are shaped like a waffle with the texture of a croissant. It was topped with whipped cream, marshmallows, cherry blossom powder and a scoop of ice cream. I split this with a friend and it was yummy!”
- Nele was on an exciting journey — her family is spending their school break in Japan! Her photos included some turtles in Shinjuku Park, Kyoto at night, sakura flowers in Ueno Park, the entrance to the Gokokuji temple, and a 25,000-step day at Tokyo Disneyland!

- Julie took us along on her walk to the grocery store spotting everything from pretty flowers and eggs to deep-fried avocados. She passed by a street that reminds her of the painting Road to Puteaux by Maurice Utrillo.
- Kyria might have had to slow her usual pace just a bit this week — who can blame her when she’s walking with such an adorable companion?!
- Joy kept up with her daily walks, and two of them included me as her walking buddy!
- Engie was walking in Wisconsin — though sometimes Hannah would rather sit and chew sticks. Fair enough.
- Nicole and Rex stopped to smell the flowers — literally. This makes a lot of sense. Growing up, Nicole’s aspiration was to become a flower. Also literally.

- mbmom11 enjoyed warm weather in her part of the world. One walk was inside her new town library. She continued to enjoy the signs of spring — crabapple blossoms and needles on a bald cypress.
- Jacquie again! The first two photos are from “a walk I took with my daughter at Spirit Trail in North Vancouver. It’s a beautiful spot near the Lonsdale Quay…The third photo is my favorite little library, only a block from my home.”
- Diane embodied everything this walking challenge represents with walking…and biking, ice skating, and yoga! I’ve chosen Diane for my Gold Star Mover of the Week Award for making time for varied activities in the middle of such a busy season of life/career.
Your turn.
*If you get a chance, please share where you’ve been walking in the comments/via e-mail so I can map out our global walking adventures for my final roundup next week! If you have any summary stats (or philosophical observations about daily walking) you want to send my way, that would be fun, too!*
- Strangest thing you’ve seen on this week’s walks?
- Has anyone else ever had a croffle? They sound delicious! Deep-fried avocados?
- Did anyone spot the Washington Monument in the above photos?

So nice to see that spring finally arrived in NS! I hope no one else gets sick though – poor Indy!
I’ve been walking in Illinois.
Elisabeth
He has a lingering head cold but it’s no longer slowing him down!
Spring has been such a relief. I feel like most of April felt rainy and dreary (I know this isn’t true from looking back at pictures but it FELT that way). Just this week so much more greenery is sprouting on trees.
Nicole MacPherson
I have made avocado fries before, but in the oven, and they were amazing. Strangest thing on my walks – yesterday we came across a dead bird. Just a headless bird. Poor thing but also – how?
To answer your questions, every single walk on every single day in April have been in Kelowna, either in the Mission Creek area or lakeside.
Elisabeth
Avocado fries! I learn something new every day Nicole and I am intrigued.
A headless bird. What did Rex think of that??? Wait, I don’t want to know…
Laurel
I live in Connecticut, so most of my walks have happened here, but we went to San Francisco for the kids’ April vacation, so I also got to walk there!
Elisabeth
It’s so fun to walk in different parts of the world/country in a single month! I’ve never been to SF and it is on my list of must-visit places in the US.
Suzanne
Oh, I love seeing everyone’s beautiful photos!!! I have been walking but not keeping track. (Well, I started to take photos, but they all turned out to be various flowering trees.) How is April over already?!
Elisabeth
Flowering trees are better than snow drifts, Suzanne!!!
I know. April has flown by. Though I think I end up saying that every month…
Lisa's Yarns
I have been walking in Minneapolis but my participation has been spotty. April has been ROUGH. Will got his tonsils out, Phil got a virus, then I got that virus, plus another one. Bleh. So I was sidelines quite a bit but walked when I could. Spring is FINALLY arriving here in Minneapolis, though. Thank goodness!
Elisabeth
April had a lot of hard things going on for you. And I hope the warmer weather and the surgery behind Will (and your cast off) will make the return to running and strength far more enjoyable.
Jenny
Ha, as I started reading this I was like “THIS IS THE LAST DAY OF APRIL???” Yes, I guess it is. Congrats to all the walkers! I love all the photos- the purple front door (I want one! I have a feeling my husband will say no), the FLOWERS, and thank you for including Rex. A day is always better with a Rex sighting.
Elisabeth
I know, Jenny. April just zoomed right by. I’m not really complaining. Spring is okay, but the winter/spring mix of snow/rain/cold weather isn’t my fave. It feels like we’re getting into the “good” part of spring with fresh buds on the trees, flowering plants, etc.
Dulcie
Hi! I don’t blog but have been following along and I’ve been walking almost every day (weather permitting) in northern Wyoming. Not quite spring here yet. I love seeing everyone’s pictures and I’ll send some next time.
Elisabeth
Yay! I’m so glad you’ve been joining out little troupe of walkers and look forward to seeing some photos from your walks when we do a fall version of the daily walk.
Michelle G.
It’s so fun to see everyone’s pictures! I’ve been walking in southwest Montana. I live on a ranch situated in a flat valley. There’s a gorgeous mountain range to the East and a busy highway and growing subdivisions, and businesses to the West. Thank you for organizing this wonderful program, Elsiabeth! It’s so much fun!
Elisabeth
I loved seeing your mountain pictures this week, Michelle! You live in such a beautiful part of the world and I know you take the time to appreciate that on your walks.
And thanks for walking “with” me all month <3

I love all these photos and it is so fun to know what everyone sees on the walks.
Strangest thing is hard but I can tel you I saw geese ducklings just a few days old. They are so tiny. Also the geese parents were frighting off other geese and I wonder if they wanted to kill the ducklings.
Also I stumbled upon the word “earthworms” as I had never heard it. After googling I of course knew the creature. In German they are called “Regenwurm” which literally translates to rainworm.
