Another week, another set of walks! And yes, it snowed. Again. (Catch up on Week 1 here.)
ELISABETH’S WALKS

*The pictures are in no particular order…
Distance | Company | FIG
- 8 – 1.01 km | Solo | It was a snow day. The world was beautiful and the kids were happily entertained hanging out with their friends.
- 9 – 7.62 km | Joy | Deep conversation with a beloved friend.
- 10 – 0.97 km | Solo | Canada Post! I walked to the mailbox (just some flyers), and realized how thankful I am that the postal strike is over.
- 11 – 4.0 km | Joy | Two squirrels chasing each other. And the fact that at one point I was able to walk outside in just a sweater!
- 12 – 2.89 km | John + Indy | Picking up eggs on our walk. We are a family that LOVES eggs, and we stopped by the store on our walk to add two dozen to the larder.
- 13 – 1.0 km | John | A drizzly, cold day. I wanted my winter coat but also needed to stay dry. Isn’t umbrella technology wonderful?
- 14 – 2.21 km | John/Gym | My first treadmill walk of the month. We could have walked outside but it was grey and uninviting. Bonus: after my inclined walk/run, I was already in the perfect spot to do a short upper-body workout. (Jenny, this feels like a good time to say One knife, two carrots).
AROUND THE (BLOGO)SPHERE

- Lisa had an exhausting start to April, but one bright spot was a bunny sighting on a walk with (a recuperating) Will in tow.
- mbmom11 spotted a beautiful star magnolia in bloom!
- Joy trailed behind Belle and a friend (one of Joy’s daughters) as they enjoyed a long, meandering walk to Grand Pré – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Engie had Hannah as a trusty companion and even convinced her to pose for an “emo” album cover photo. The ducks in the water were convinced to leave their dry riverwalk by a particular someone. *Cough* Hannah *Cough*
- Diane says she isn’t “officially” participating in the CBWC but she has stunning pictures from her “unofficial” walks. Cherry blossoms! The Lincoln Memorial! Rain boots in a puddle! It’s official, Diane – you’re in the club <3
- Nicole (and Rex) continued to walk long distances every single day for the sheer joy of being outside in nature.
- Kyria spent a day at the beach! It was a 2-mile trek each way, but 100% worth the walk.

- Sophie had one of “those weeks” but enjoyed several walks around a nearby lake and had our first KANGAROO SPOTTING of the walking challenge.
- San enjoyed some sunny strolls in her neighbourhood, including a stop at the community pool.
- Alexandra captured photos of cheerful looking blooms in a local park on one of her walks.
- Jacquie sent me two pictures from her walks this week. First, from “Deer Lake in Burnaby where I walk every Saturday morning with my friend, Donna.” The second photo is also from Burnaby. “The swinging sign has quite a history in this area. Originally the sign said “Helen’s” as it was above a children’s clothing store owned by a woman named Helen in 1956. The store closed in 2007 and Helen passed away in 2019 at 99 years old, then the City of Burnaby acquired the sign in 2010 and changed the name when refurbishing it. Apparently it’s one of the best examples of kinetic neon signs in all of North America.”
- Sabine enjoyed an evening walk after dinner with her daughter, stopping to admire the tulips in full bloom and spent a lot of time at a track and field competition with her son, tulips are even more in bloom now (from an evening walk after dinner with my daughter), and I spent a lot of time at a track and field competition of my son
Your turn.
- Did anyone else wear rain boots on one of their walks this week? What about sandals or flip-flops? (That’s just a dream to me at this point in the spring.)
- What’s the most unexpected thing you wore (or saw someone wear) on a walk this week?

Thanks as always for the wrap up! I love seeing everyone’s happy photos (including the snowy ones)! I usually do not wear flip flops/sandals when walking longer distances. I mean, I can, but I like being more sturdy, so usually use regular shoes, even when I am going to the beach! I saw some interesting swimsuits, that is for sure. When you are in a place where a lot of different nationalities go, it is always amazing the varieties there are in both modesty and fashion!
Elisabeth
It might be a smidge easier to love the snow pictures when you’re a 2 mile walk from the beach! I will admit it was beautiful, though.
I remember being in Denmark and seeing all the nude bathers (most of them quite advanced in age I might add) and being so surprised. And then in Iceland, changing to go into the Blue Lagoon and there were…no change rooms! It is such a difference from North America, yet I feel like they tend to be much more confident in their own bodies!
Birchie
Sophie wins week 2 with the kangaroo sighting! My claim to fame is walking in three different states, since I went on a trip this weekend.
My first choice for walking will always be sneakers. Even if it’s 100 degrees out, it’s worth my time to change into sneakers before walking the dog. Otherwise I have a pair of Teva sandals that I wear when it’s warm. Ever since we got Doggo we keep a pair of mud boots by the back door so that when it’s muddy we can mush around in the backyard with her.
Elisabeth
It’s not fair, eh? Who can compete with kangaroos?? Although walking in three states in one week is pretty darn impressive, Birchie. A two-way tie?
I hate wearing anything other than sneakers for walking. Boots are so heavy and clunky and it means it’s wet or cold, and sandals are never practical. If I’m walking along a sandy beach I prefer to go barefoot, so I guess there is one exception.
Grateful Kae
Great pics from everyone!! I didn’t officially join- I was too disorganized and distracted at beginning of month arriving home, so I saw the notices but didn’t really want to “commit” 😉 But I usually walk most every day, especially now that it’s been relatively warmer out. Spring still is terrible here, but at least we’ve had sort of mild temps (sort of because it can also still be really cold… such wide ranges in a day!). It’s supposed to be 70F on Friday though!! It’s gonna rain and that day is sandwiched between cooler days and it’s been crazy windy (makes it feel colder), but hey- at least no snow and it’s technically been significantly warmer than like, January.
I’ve just been wearing sneakers usually to walk. If it’s cold/damp I have a newer pair of Sketchers walking boots I got for Christmas that are super comfy and I will usually wear.
Elisabeth
I know Charlie needs his daily walks, so love that means you get daily walks, too. What a cute companion.
It’s warm and sunny today…and later this week we’re supposed to get flurries 🙁
Nicole MacPherson
Another shirtless guy! It’s spring! My first sighting was on March 31, and the guy was just…walking. With his girlfriend and dog. Wearing pants and shoes and nothing else. And it was 6 degrees, his girlfriend was wearing toque, puffy jacket, etc. And he was just…shirtless. The second shirtless guy I saw last week was actually running, it wasn’t much warmer but the sun was out.
You’ve had a lot of snow!
Elisabeth
I have seen zero shirtless men or women where I live! But I saw two girls running in shorts last week and their legs were BEET red from the cold. Better them than me.
J
Speaking of shirtless guys, there is a guy we see sometimes that my daughter and I call ‘tiny shorts guy’, because we saw him running shirtless in tiny shorts. He has kind of a big belly, but it doesn’t bounce around, so there must be muscle under there. There’s another runner we call ‘flip flop guy’, who runs with his big old beard and man bun and these weird shoes that sound like flip flops as he comes up from behind. I just know he thinks he’s sensitive, but is very much of the patriarchy. We are not judgy. (HA! We’re totally judgy.)
Elisabeth
There is a man who is a GIANT (I don’t know how tall…but he’s tall) and he runs shirtless in the summer (maybe barefoot) with tight bicycle shorts. That takes a lot of guts!
This also makes me think of the one time I’ve been to a sunny destination resort. There was a man we saw every day who was…extremely large. He had on the smallest, tightest faux-leather swim bottoms. He was always walking around with a petite woman and we joked that she HAD to be helping him get them on each morning (they really were impossibly tight and tiny).
Jenny
Ah, a post with kangaroos, Rex, and Hannah’s emo album cover! What more could we ever want??? I love how you pair your walks with FIGS. Hmm, I might be due for another Figgy Friday!
Elisabeth
I know, right? Pets and flowers. Hard to beat.
Ahhh, I’d LOVE to read another Figgy Friday.
Ernie
These are some lovely photos. Spring is here, or where I live – almost here. I hope. We are still having cold weather in my neck of the woods with occasional REALLY warm days.
I haven’t officially joined either – same boat as Kae. The start of the month was a little hectic after arriving home from Italy and getting started with travel basketball. I did walk while at the hotel last weekend (travel b-ball team played early and I didn’t have time for a morning run, so I opted to walk outside for a bit vs sitting inside the hotel). It was a beautiful day. I intended to send you pictures and I lost my focus. I’ll send pics and hope ask for forgiveness for being late.
I haven’t seen anyone wearing unique things recently, but a few years ago I saw a woman walking in my adjacent neighborhood with a giant bird on her shoulder or her hand or something. I have a photo to share.
Elisabeth
No forgiveness needed – send pictures whenever you get around to it. Or don’t! No pressure either way. I’m just thrilled people are outside walking.
Okay – walking (with) a bird is a new one for me!
Allison
*sob* the pics with flowers. It’s supposed to snow here again too. I still walk in just a sweater because I am weird in a thermo-regulatory way, but it is cold. I also wore flip flops with bare feet to bar night last night, only because I was too lazy to put on real shoes. I am still working on knee pain, so not walking much, but doing yoga or stretching every day. I will spare you the pictures of my dog trying to lick my face while I do cobra.
Elisabeth
I bet Lucy is adorable in all her yoga poses.
I see the sun, but it never seems to stay out these days. We had more rain (and lots of wind) today. I KNOW the green is coming, but the trees are all looking so sad and bare here in Nova Scotia.
Alexandra
Oh my, you went from just under 1 km to over 7. That’s quite the spread. But yes, it all really depends on the weather and, as you know living in NS, how awful April weather can be in Canada at this time of year. We’ve had snow flurries and rain today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
I wore a good pair of sturdy walking shoes and my ‘bubble’ jacket when at the park, most people wore the same. No sandals or flip flops sighted here. Quebeckers are too sensible. I don’t know about downtown in the tourist areas, though. They tumble off the boat wearing some eye popping stuff. (I’ll get photos this summer).
Elisabeth
Ha! I do feel like Canadians tend to be quite sensible with their winter gear. We need to be – it’s cold for the majority of the year.
Alexandra
Indeed, no one wants to lose an exposed body part, now do they?
Sophie
What a great week of walks from everyone! Very impressed that you walked in all weather types.
All my walks last week were in sandals (mostly Birkenstocks though – so comfy sandals), because they were walks on my lunch break. Walks from home I tend to wear runners.
Elisabeth
I can only DREAM of Birks right now. I was looking at pictures from a few summers ago earlier today and saw a picture of myself in short sleeves, capri pants and Birks. At like 9:00 pm. It honestly feels like a dream!
Lisa's Yarns
I have only worn my running shoes for walks! I do not have comfortable rain boots and I am not hearty enough to walk in the rain to be honest… I’m a bit of a fair weather walker. When I was training for races, I would run in the rain so I was heartier earlier in my life!
We walked to mail a card yesterday and it was THE WORST WALK IN AGES. The boys insisted on taking the stroller and then they fought over who got to mail the card, and then they fought over who sat in the front or back of the stroller (it’s a one-kid stroller but one of them can sit on the foot rest). Then Paul was cold and wanted to go back but Will wanted to walk further to see if a neighbor’s dog was out. So then Will screamed and screamed… which was super embarrassing when we met a neighbor on the walk who just looked askance…
I love the kangaroo pic! It brings back great memories of when I studied abroad at the same university at Sophie teaches at! Our lives have a crazy about of symmetry!
Elisabeth
I hate walking in the rain. I’m such a wimp.
Isn’t it amazing how the MOST BENIGN experience (going to the mail) can turn into such a poop show. Amazing and so, so exhausting. IT GETS BETTER, LISA. I promise.
Wait? I didn’t know when you did your exchange you went to the same school where Sophie teaches? That’s so cool!
Suzanne
Kangaroo spotting!!!!
My walk had teeny flakes of snow yesterday, Elisabeth. But today seems to be all about sunshine!
Also, I need to know what one knife two carrots means, lol. Is it a less gross/violent way of saying two birds, one stone?
Elisabeth
I would rather kangaroos than snow (we had hail on a walk last week – HAIL, Suzanne!)…but I am cheered by the increasing number of crocuses I’m seeing.
And yes – I still can’t remember who suggested the one knife, two carrots but it was when I asked for a less violent way to rephrase two birds, one stone.

I love these round ups. Thank you for hosting and putting it all together.
It’s so great to see where everyone is walking and how different the areas are.
I usually wear sneakers or if I am out for a longer hike 5km+ and know Ill be in the woods or the ground could be muddy I put on my hiking boots. I never do flipflops unless its a walk to the beach or maybe running auto the store about 1.3km one way.
San
I enjoy these round-ups so much. It’s so cool to see where other people fit in their walks this week. And yes, I’ve been wearing sandals a few times already… and as you know, I actually swam in the pool outside last weekend. It’s nice to live in a place where this is possible in April 🙂
