A few weeks ago Andrea posted a list of fun questions she uses to help take attendance in her Math class. I picked 20 of her prompts to answer today:
- Would you rather travel the world or live in your dream home? Tough one. My heart says travel the world, but my homebody tendencies are protesting loudly in the corner. I’ll choose travel, with regular stints of downtime at home.
- Eat a whole lemon or a raw potato? So easy! Raw potato. I grew up eating raw potato slices sprinkled with salt and thought it was the best snack ever.
- Would you rather control the weather or heal any injury/illness? The weather. Both would be world-changing and save so many lives, but I think being able to change the weather might impact more people at once.
- Constantly be itchy or always have a cough? Cough. Both sound miserable, but constant itching might actually break me.
- Would you rather have a personal chef or personal stylist? CHEF! Imagine not having to cook. #Dream!!
- What is your favourite holiday? Is this a trick question? CHRISTMAS. Always Christmas.
- Get stitches or get a cavity filled? Neither. Darn, that’s cheating. If forced, I’d pick cavity — the dentist doesn’t really faze me (though I wouldn’t call it fun).
- Go skydiving or ride the world’s tallest roller coaster? Skydiving.
- Live without music or movies? Movies. Life without music would be so depressing.
- Horror movie or comedy? Comedy.
- Travel or stay home during a break? Depends!
- You have $3, what are you buying at the gas station? Nothing. I’m pocketing it to put in my savings account.
- Netflix or Hulu? Netflix. I’ve heard of Hulu but I’m not entirely sure what it is — another streaming service? A TV channel? Someone fill me in.
- Do you sleep in socks? Absolutely not. Just…no!!!
- Would you rather give up chocolate or cheese forever? Cheese.
- What’s the worst chore? Cleaning up someone else’s bodily fluids. Cleaning vomit turns my stomach.
- What do you dip chicken nuggets in? On the rare occasion that nuggets appear on my plate, I’ll dip them in ketchup, honey mustard, or tartar sauce.
- What’s scarier if you think about it: ocean or space? Ocean. Things are swimming in it.
- What’s the ugliest color? Any shade that reminds me of bodily fluids.
- Would you rather be a spectator at the Winter Olympics or Summer Olympics? Summer. I love watching the Winter Olympics on TV, but hate being cold. The thought of sitting outside in sub-zero temps does not appeal to me.

Potato – pass the salt!
I’ll go with healing.
I have a cough often anyway ( allergies) do I know I can live with that. I hate being itchy.
I’ll live without movies.
At gas station, I’ll buy a fountain soda for $1 and save the rest. Unless someone else wants a slushie?
I will sleep in socks, esp in cold weather.
Ugliest color is vermillion. ( sorry, but the bodily fluid colors are also found in nature- rocks and dirt and leaves- so I don’t mind them. )
I think Winter Olympics – my sister saw a lot of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as a volunteer, and it sounded really cool. But most sporting events leave me cold, so maybe I’ll just pass and stay home with a good book.

How kind of you to offer someone else a gas store treat! I have never had a slushie from a gas station (or maybe ever), and I have to admit they don’t look very appealing to me. But my kids think they look good!

I’m with you on almost everything else, except the socks and cheese. I do wear socks in bed when I’m freezing (we sleep with the window open year-round), and I could never live without cheese in ALL varieties!
I just hate the sensation of socks on my feet when I’m trying to sleep. It gives me the shivers. Sometimes I’ll get INTO bed with socks on, but I basically always take them off before I got to sleep.
I didn’t even know you could eat a potato raw and my mind is blown. Will I be brave enough to try a slice with salt? I’m not sure. But still, fascinating!
My mom used to peel, cut, and soak potatoes on the stove during the day and it was a treat to get a thin slice sprinkled with salt. I LOVED it. I almost never eat them that way now, but it was very common in my childhood.
Some of these are easy! I would definitely rather have a cough than be itchy, give up cheese rather than chocolate, give up movies rather than music, absolutely would spectate the summer olympics. For $3 at a gas station, I’d buy a Coke Zero ( I mean- if you’re forcing me to buy something!) I would definitely choose a personal chef, and a comedy over horror movie.
Some of them are tricky, like the first one. I guess, travel… but I want both! A raw potato sounds really unappetizing so I guess I would choose the lemon (yikes.) #6 is obviously a trick question : )
Wouldn’t a personal chef be EVERYTHING. It sounds like sheer perfection!!!
And yes, I’m not sure why I bothered answering #6…then again, I know quite a few people from America who like Thanksgiving more than Christmas.
My kid read this post to me on the drive to school, and she and I answered each question as well. It was very fun!
I am pretty wishy washy on a lot of these (like, I cannot decide between travel or dream home, which are equally appealing; nor can I decide between skydiving or roller coaster, which are equally appalling), but I have a definitive answer for you on the worst chore (cleaning vomit/bodily output, that is the correct answer) and chocolate vs cheese (giving up chocolate vs cheese is an easy sacrifice).

I don’t want to do the skydiving OR the roller coaster, but I’ve done the roller coaster thing, so it feels like choosing the bigger life? Or potentially ending my one and only life in a horrific way!

Get stitches or get a cavity filled? Since I’ve had plenty of cavities filled, and never really stitches that I have been awake for, I’ll take stitches.
Go sky diving or ride the world’s tallest roller coaster? Neither. Just thinking of these 2 is giving me a panic attack.
Live without music or movies? Same as you movies. I could never live without music.
Horror movie or comedy? Comedy all the way. Too much anxiety with horror movies.
You have $3, what are you buying at the gas station? Hostess cupcakes – chocolate version.
Netflix or Hulu? Netflix since we already pay for it. Hulu is a streaming service and is like having a DVR that will records your favorite shows from the night before.
Do you sleep in socks? No. I learned in Girl Scouts to always remove your socks that you have been wearing all day. They are damp and you will never warm up and they will never dry. Try it the enxt time you are cold. It works!
Would you rather give up chocolate or cheese forever? Cheese as much as I love it.
What’s the worst chore? I agree, cleaning up after sick children.

People answer the question by way to declaring their attendance. So when she calls their name, instead of saying Present, they would answer the question. Unbeknownst to me, this is what my son’s teacher does for attendance, too. He just mentioned it to me the other day (long after I had drafted this post).

I had to laugh at what you’d buy at the gas station. GAS! $3 wouldn’t go far, but ever bit helps offset the cost.
Would you rather travel the world or live in your dream home? As long as we’re dreaming here, can I pick my real dream i.e. my current home plus renovations, plus a home abroad somewhere by the water? Not exactly travelling the world!
Eat a whole lemon or a raw potato? Potato seems like an obvious choice, although, if I’m allowed to add things, a lemon with sugar would probably be good. Just can’t imagine making it through the whole thing!
Would you rather control the weather or heal any injury/illness? I would control the weather and I would make it rain mostly on week nights between 12-5 and only occasionally during the day (because sometimes you want a rainy day, right?). As you can see, I’ve thought about this a bit.
Constantly be itchy or always have a cough? Cough. Itchiness is unbearable! Coughing is pretty awful too, but I feel like I have more tools for handling that.
Would you rather have a personal chef or personal stylist? A chef, although I love cooking. Just would be nice to be able to farm out the decision making.
What is your favourite holiday? Christmas. Use to be Thanksgiving when I lived in the US, and I still do love that holiday – less work but usually 100% enjoyable!
Get stitches or get a cavity filled? I’ve only gotten stitches while thoroughly anesthetized and behind a curtain (for C-section) so I don’t think I’m objective here, but I think I would choose stitches providing they are somewhere I can look away.
Go sky diving or ride the world’s tallest roller coaster? I used to love roller coasters but I’m really not sure anymore. Not sure my nervous system could handle either type of thrill-seeking anymore!

I hate changing sheets on a normal bed (hate it); bunk beds sound like torture. I was so relieved that Belle didn’t want me to stay to help her get her bed set up at camp! Phew.

Live in my dream home for sure. I do live in my dream home & it’s the best place to be.
Would you rather control the weather or heal any injury/illness? Heal an illness or injury. For the most part, we can get out of the weather or away from storms with enough warning. And they are short lived. Injuries or chronic illnesses have to be dealt with for a lifetime.
Would you rather have a personal chef or personal stylist? I totally agree with you on this one! Though I might keep cooking breakfast occasionally….my favorite meal.

I think I’d like cooking more if it felt optional! If only the default was someone else would prefer exactly what I wanted. Bliss. Also, in this dream scenario, they would also clean up and do the grocery shopping 😉

the worst chore is cleaning the bathroom, but a baby projectile vomited on me today and it got on EVERYTHING and that clean up was pretty annoying – a total time suck.
Good point about the lack of oxygen. Though I feel like that might be a better way to die than being torn to bits by a shark. HOPEFULLY I NEVER FIND OUT!
