The Cool Bloggers Walking Club starts ONE WEEK from today — and yes, you are invited!
- You don’t have to be a blogger.
- You don’t have to walk marathon distances.
- You don’t even have to call it “exercise” if that’s not your thing.
- It’s not about perfection, it’s about participation and community.
We’re aiming for 10 minutes of intentional movement each day in October. Walking is the default, but dancing, stretching, running, or marching in place totally count. Don’t stress if you miss a few days.
Here’s a printable tracker to help you mark your progress:
Here’s what’s happening:
- When: Starts October 1st — that’s next week!
- Who: Anyone, anywhere. Tell a friend! Ask your cousin to join! Invite your neighbor!
- How: Use the printable tracker to stay on top of your daily movement.
- Where: On a treadmill, in your neighborhood, around your office, in your hotel room.
- Why: It’s a simple way to build community and boost our mental and physical health.
I’m aiming to live up to our new tagline: Short walks, big connections. To make that happen, I need your help!
Please share details about your walking adventures: send photos, blog links, or other notes from your walking adventures to optimisticmusings {at} gmail {dot} com. I’ll be pulling together weekly recaps to celebrate our collective progress (check out an example from our last walking challenge in April, and another from October 2024) sharing highlights from around the globe that look a little something like this:

Interested in joining, but hesitating because of logistics? Ask yourself:
- What time of day would be easiest (or most fun) for your walk?
- Who could you invite to join you — in person or virtually?
- What could become your go-to walking route?
- Could you go for one tech-free walk and just take in your surroundings?
- Got a fun playlist or podcast to walk to? Share it!
Let’s make this joyful, low-pressure, and super fun.
Your turn.
- Any questions?
- Who’s ready for this!!!???
- What’s your favourite walking route?

This is going to be great, thanks for organizing, Elisabeth!!
I’m so glad to have you joining in this time, Catrina! You are truly an outdoor movement inspiration <3
Let’s do this!!!!
Yes! You always have the BEST pictures of CBWC, Suzanne.
I’m in!
My typical route is just around the block, which can be so glorious in autumn.
I love how fall transforms even the most familiar of landscapes into something magical.
Let’s do this!!!
I have a ton of favorite hiking trails, but I’m with mbmomm that the best walking route is the one that has no commute to get to. I will never get tired of strolling around the ‘hood.
The only down-side to the timing of your visit is our epic Cape Split hike didn’t “count” for CBWC. But I will be walking with you in spirit and now you know many of my familiar, much-loved walking spots in Nova Scotia.
Tell Mina I’m hoping to see pictures from her walks. I assume she’s joining the club as well?
I walk every day no matter what so I’ll be there! I’ll try to send pics 🙂
You are the Walking Queen, Nicole. It will be sad not to see Rex in all your photos but, also, MOROCCO! Um, yes, please!
Wait just a second- next week is OCTOBER already??? (Time to get out the Halloween decorations, I guess!) I’m going to join this time so I can be a cool walking blogger : )
I know, Jenny. I am as stunned as you are; where DID the time go?
And it fills me with unspeakable delight that you will be joining (feel free to make it a run, of course)!
I saw posts about this last year and I’d like to join this time! Every time I try to do a challenge like this I fail, because of weather. But October is a great time for a project like this. Do I send something every day? Weekly? Would a recap on the blog do?
Honestly, there’s no pressure to do anything. It adds to the fun when people share photos or recaps, but only if you have the time/inclination!
If you post a recap, I’ll link to it (and/or you can send me a photo or two each week from your walks with a short description if you’re so inclined).
I was briefly puzzled by my own Week 3 photo from last year, before I remembered: that was near the hotel in Miami, where we had evacuated ahead of the hurricane! Oh, please, let this October be less eventful than last year. I aim to walk daily, though if the hurricane allows my trip, a few days it will be walking in airports.
Yes, VERY much hoping for a much less eventful CBWC for you! Fingers crossed there are ZERO hurricanes.
I’m excited to join in this year. Although I recently received a jury summons for the week of the 13th 😱. That week’s walks might end up being downtown from the parking garage several blocks away to the courthouse (I am not comfortable in cities, so fingers crossed I don’t actually have to appear).
I’m hoping you don’t end up having to serve; if so, drive safe. Like you, I find driving in cities overwhelming. But walks to/from jury duty definitely “count”!
I’m in! I walk every day, but just around my neighborhood. I’ll try to find interesting pictures.
Yay! I love hearing about your walks.
I saw this last year about half way through and I am excited to participate this year. I will certainly have days where I will have to use my morning workout as the “walk” since when I work 12 hours there is no time for anything afterwards. I will include my husband sometimes as he walks our dog multiple times a day. Thank you for the tracker.
Thanks for joining in, Joyce! Dogwalkers have a secret superpower since they tend to walk daily to begin with!
*raising my hand high* mememe! I’m also looking forward to see if I can make some walks a little (or a big!) adventure. And totally planning a beach walk.
Yay! Little, big, or no adventures…I’m so glad you’re able to join us again.
I, too, cannot believe it is almost October. That snuck up on me. A new baby just started this week, which means on Tu/Thu I have too many little people to fit them in my stroller. Ugh. I’m hoping to get up early and get some form or a walk or a run in. On M and W, I can take my 3 little people in my quad stroller. All that to say, Yep, I’m in. Thanks for organizing.
Your young charges have now idea they’re cool blog walkers 😉
I’m in – I’ve been walking about 2 miles every day for the past several months. I don’t know how many pictures I can provide as it’s a pretty but boring (nothing spectacular to photograph) walk. I can already answer the question to the “can you do a tech-free walk?” question – no. I generally listen to an audiobook to get me through and can’t be left alone with my thoughts these days. 😉
Sometimes the distraction is necessary, Gigi! No judgement here!
And gold stars for the walking consistency lately.
I’m circling the edges, sniffing around, thinking. My neighbor and I walk at 6 AM, using flashlights, so photos won’t be possible. But on the days we don’t go together, maybe joining CBWC would force my lazy arse out of my comfy chair.
To be continued. . .
Hey, I think photos in the dark illuminated with a flashlight sound very cool indeed.
Also. THAT’S SO EARLY!
Hope you’re able to join in!
Wouldn’t miss it!!
I was hoping you’d say that. And I wonder what delicious food items you’ll come across on your walks this year. Your photos always leave my mouth watering!
I’m in. We walk most days, usually to the grocery store around the corner or the dog park and then along the beach, but I will be starting the month off with some awesome hiking in the Grampians.
Yay! Can’t wait to see all the photos and hear about your adventures.
I’m in and I’m ready! Thank you for hosting it again!
Bring it on, Michelle! Maybe some of your gnomes will do some treadmill walking in the dollhouse??? Haha.
I’m so excited for this! It’s going to look a little different on my end than I initially thought, since I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago and am still rebuilding my stability/endurance (sigh). But hey, that means I really DO need to move every day! 😀
Gah. Such unfortunate timing (there is no convenient time to sprain an ankle). Ouch. I hope you’re feeling better soon and yay for daily movement. Take it slow and never feel obligated to do every single day. So happy to have you join in as you’re able <3
I’m in! I’ve decided that this year I’m going to designate one walk a day as my CBWC walk and on that walk I will either listen to music or not have earbuds in!
I have a Spotify playlist I created for our first year registration program. It’s full of happy songs and I’m going to be using it as my music! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2sCQzpjvRR5TEM3mCRZShI?si=8hYoEnJmSIS_qoK0DgDxLA
Yay! I love this. A daily CBWC walk…and music (or quiet). A winning combination. I love listening to music and you can bet your bottom dollar I will be checking out this playlist. Thanks for sharing it, Engie <3
And in other exciting news, CBBC is also on the horizon. The world may be literally burning around us, but by golly we have some fun things to look forward to in October!
I am in as always! I will be in a new to me place, so it will be fun to explore together!
I count on you to add to the international tally!
I’ll try to join in. I can’t promise pictures or updates, but I am trying to get in the habit of going for walks more often, and this will be good motivation. I don’t get out of the house as often as I’d like, but when I do, I almost always leave my phone at home. It’s nice to have a little tech-free time in nature.
Welcome, Elizabeth (with a “z”) and just walk as you’re able. No need to send pictures or updates! It’s just fun to know that other people are also walking in tandem in various other places in the world. It provides some extra motivation to get outside each day.
I want To join but I didn’t see any place to sign in
Hi Carolyn. There’s no official “sign up” – but feel free to print the tracker off and if you’re inclined to send pictures my way, that is always fun!
