John and I ended up working in the kitchen for the fundraiser dinner (which was amazing; helping behind-the-scenes was a blast)…but it meant we missed almost all of the after-dinner trivia.
We finished cleanup just in time to participate in the final round and were shown these ten rebus puzzles (one at a time) and had 15 seconds to look at each puzzle and then 1 minute at the end to go back and reassess our answers, albeit without access to the pictures.
If you’re looking for a few minutes of entertainment this Wednesday morning, why don’t you set a timer and see how many you can solve in 3.5 minutes.

Like those math questions at school where the train is on a track heading west at X miles an hour, and a car is heading east on a road at Y miles an hour … how long is it before you give up and make an aeroplane out of your exam paper?

Truth is, it took me most of the morning to figure most of these out and then, a couple stumped me.

Well, we had 3.5 and I don’t think an extra hour would have helped me. I think my mind got into tracks and was stuck. I think we got 5 or 6 of the 10, but the other ones – that seemed so obvious after we heard the answers – didn’t even cross my mind!

Yeah, I had to find the right headspace first to figure out how to solve them. That took more time than I realised. And I definitely thought Potholes rather than potatoes. Funny how our brains work. I guess if we solved these like scrabble or crosswords, daily, it would be easier.
As is, it was a fun challenge and worked the old grey cells.
