I decided it was time for another round of Ask Me (Almost) Anything. I did this last year during NaBloPoMo and it was…a lot of fun! Also, my old website got deleted so I’m starting with a fresh slate; if you ask questions that I answered last year, no one will be any the wiser!
I’ve created a handy Google Form which you can access here to submit questions. I’ll dedicate a few posts at the end of the month to answering some of the questions I receive.
Your turn. Any burning questions you want me to answer today! Feel free to leave them below in the comments section. Or, I have a few random questions for you! *Note: my comment plugin can be…sluggish. If you leave a comment and it doesn’t show up – never fear. It will almost certainly show up eventually. There is a caching issue I’m trying to sort out with limited success.*

right now I am wearing Eddie Bauer jammies from costco that I slept in and also exercised in– SO DREAMY
Elisabeth
Jammies are the best. No doubt.
Nicole MacPherson
Favourite hot beverage – COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE!
Right now it’s 5:17 and I am in my yoga/ workout clothes. But later I am going to be all fancy, because I’m going to Superstore! Ha. I will probably wear jeans and a black sweater.
My worst haircut ever was in 1986 when Papa Don’t Preach came out. I wanted my hair cut just like Madonna’s in that music video. If you google it, you will see why it was the worst haircut ever. Not the one on the front of the album. The one when she’s wearing an Italians Do It Better tee.
Elisabeth
You like coffee? Shocking, haha.
5:17 – go YOU Nicole. Seriously, being up and working out by that time of day WITH A HAPPY HEART is #LifeGoals.
I googled the haircut. I mean, it’s not that bad?!
Ernie
I wish I could re-see Shaun of the Dead for the first time. Summer over winter, 100%. People used to say I looked like Sigourny Weaver (spelling? – she’s in Ghostbusters, the original). My wished-for super power, to be able to correct wrongs when they happen, lock people up or have them lose their jobs when they should. Current nightmare basketball situation clouding my vision on that one. Mushrooms are just plain gross.
Elisabeth
I’ve never seen Shaun of the Dead.
I’m medium-cold towards mushrooms – hate them raw, tolerate them okay cooked.
Ernie
Oops – I forgot to ask a question. What kind of work do you do? Did you go to college for said job? What is your dream job? Do you feel like your job is just a job or is it more of a career?
Elisabeth
I am finishing up a role as a university research project manager. I am stepping back the end of December which will leave me with two part-time roles: director of communications for a small business my husband and I co-own, and a student support department coordinator at a university.
I did NOT go to university for any of these roles, per se. My background is Biology. After I graduated with my Master’s degree, I started working in environmental/land-use management tech and that just spiraled into other opportunities. (A bit more about all that here).
My jobs are ALL just a job and definitely not a career. I only picked Biology over English because I figured there would be more jobs. But then I ended up having a baby just after I finished my graduate degree and…well, life has been busy ever since.
Dream job? So many! Travelling the world and taking photos for a living (with John). (Think I would LOVE this.) Broadway singer. Location scout for movies. If I could sew, costume designer. Motivational speaker? I’m an introvert, but actually like public speaking.
Kat
I am also an introvert who enjoys public speaking. I guess because it’s not actually talking to an individual person?? I’ve always wondered about that. People assume introverts fear this kind of thing but not me. So interesting!
Elisabeth
I think you’re right! One-on-one (or, worse yet one on 3-4) is a nightmare for me if I don’t know the people well. But I can talk to a room full of strangers without too much issue.
Jenny
Alright, I’m going to think of some questions for your AMA post. I feel like I already know quite a bit about you!
To answer some of your questions- it’s my day off, so right now I’m wearing my daytime pajamas (obviously.) And drinking my favorite Ear Grey tea (obviously!)
Mushrooms: ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Summer or winter: in Florida, winter. Up north, summer all the way.
Superpower: control the weather. Obviously.
Elisabeth
Pajamas for the win. Always. Earl Grey is amazing – I just had a delicious mug at my favourite cafe on Saturday.
Phew. That is some unfettered hatred for mushrooms!
Controlling the weather. THAT IS GENIUS in terms of a superpower. GENIUS!
Suzanne
Mushrooms — yes, but only if cooked.
I had a handful of really excellent teachers, and I think about them often. One was my eighth grade English teacher, and he was so dry and irreverent and had a real talent for making boring material come to life. I was fortunate to have him as my English teacher again in high school — I don’t even remember what he taught, but I had to take his class because he was such a fantastic teacher.
Right now I am wear fleece-lined leggings, a sports bra, and a long sleeved shirt because ostensibly I am going for a walk and it’s chilly outside. Also, I wear leggings as often as possible. Soft pants are the superior pants.
Elisabeth
Ohhh. I also had an incredible English teacher (for Grade 11 and 12). Hands down my favourite teacher (Mr. Howland). He fostered my love of writing and I loved how he dedicated part of every class for “free reading” time when you could read WHATEVER YOU WANTED.
Soft pants ARE the superior pants.

I think I’m going to make an old school meme out of your questions, and have it on my blog when I finish my A-Z thing. My Elisabeth meme! Always looking for content during NaBloPoMo, right? Thank you!
I’m drinking tea, wearing my yoga clothes, because RIGHT after I finish this comment I need to go do my yoga video and then take my walk (same clothes, except I add socks and shoes for the walk…and a jacket today because it’s 52 degrees outside).
Elisabeth
I’ll be excited to see the meme.
Hope the yoga was fun 🙂
mbmom11
Hot beverage? I’ll drink black tea, highly sweetened. Our cars are all unoriginally called by their colors – what happens when you have preschoolers around! I use the wink emoji the most, probably. In my teens, people used to say I looked like Ally Sheedy. Worst haircut – any one from my pre-teen years. I’ve never seen Home Alone. I like winter over summer, but fall over all! Never mushrooms. One of my favorite teacher was Mrs Bunting, 8th grade math. She showed us the proof of why the square root of 2 is irrational – and that hooked me on math.
Elisabeth
I had to look up Ally Sheedy – I think I only saw her in the Breakfast Club and I only saw that movie once, as a teen, and can’t remember any big details other than they get stuck inside the school overnight/a weekend. I think?!
I’m a bit shocked you haven’t seen Home Alone, but it’s also odd I don’t know many details about the Breakfast Club which is still a cult classic!

Oh so many fun questions.
I’d rather be rich then famous (mainly because I have no idea what I could be famous for and if I want it to be something useful not like actor or singer)
Most look alike: people have told me I remind them of Drew Barrymore. I am ok with that.
Never named my car or bike.
I will have to think about the questions I have for you.
Elisabeth
Now that you mention it, YES I can see hints of Drew Barrymore.
Sara
Favourite hot beverage? Coffee with cream
Would you rather be rich or famous? Neither. The thought of both makes me sweaty.
Do you have a nickname? Turbo (when I was in Afghanistan in the Army my commander gave me this nickname because I walk so fast and then no one ever called me by my name again)
Do you “name” your vehicles? Every single one–currently rocking “Abby the Acura”
What is your most-used emoji? Eye roll–hands down.
What celebrity/public figure do people say you most look like? OR Which actor/actress would you choose to play you in a movie about your life? Jennifer Lawrence–I am a clumsy baby giraffe, too. Or Blake Lively.
What movie/book do you wish you could watch/read again for the FIRST time?
What are you wearing right now? A sweater with buttons down the back that I pulled over the t-shirt I slept in and the leggings I also slept in. What? I showered before bed…
Favourite class in school? Contemporary Women Philosophers
Summer or winter? SUMMER.
Elisabeth
Coffee with cream = classic.
Rick/famous answer is hilarious.
I had no idea you served in Afghanistan in the army.
Abby the Acura. LOVE. IT.
I never, ever use the eye roll. I use the side laugh (with tears) emoji A LOT, then next would be thumbs up. Then heart? I also use the shrug and facepalm regularly. But that’s about it. I RARELY search up emojis for anything beyond those go-to 5-6.
No shade about staying in bed clothes!!!
Michelle G.
These are some great questions, Elisabeth! I drink tea or coffee, but my favorite hot beverage has to be hot chocolate!
My most used emoji is a red heart. I have named some “special” vehicles but don’t set out to do it. It just happens. One classic example is “The Orange Beaner”. Obviously not one of my favorite vehicles! And I’m a definite NO WAY on mushrooms! Mushrooms and coconut are my least favorite foods.
And here are my questions for you: What is your least favorite food? Do you like mushrooms? Do you name your vehicles? If so, some examples? What silly things make you laugh? Do you have any funny stories about something you said as a child, or something your children said?
Elisabeth
I use the read heart a lot, too.
Least favourite food? I hate quiche. Which is bizarre because I love eggs. But quiche is just gross.
Mushrooms are fine. I do NOT eat them raw, but cooker they’re “okay” – but mostly I’d prefer they be mixed into a dish and chopped up relatively finely.
We don’t name our vehicles really, and just call them by their brand name. Sometimes we’ll say something like “It’s time to get in Old Bessie” to refer to our 2011 car.
I LOVE to laugh. Memes make me laugh. My husband. Sitcoms (Frasier, Parks and Rec, The Office – and in that order).
I feel like we have a lot of inside jokes with things our kids said when they were little. Like the line “Chris, you smell like…a peach” makes me laugh SO hard, but it’s only funny to our family.
I love to think back to how my kids used to pronounce things. Li-berry (library), bah-zert (dessert), agoo (yougurt). And one of my kids still calls cigarette’s “sing-gur-ettes”. It makes me happy they didn’t know how to pronounce the word, but also made me chuckle. Sing vs. cig…

Let’s do this!
– Coffee with half and half
– Stinking rich, and once I see what it’s like I can make the call on whether to buy fame or an island to hide out on. Or both.
– Ooooh I wish that I could watch all of the classics for the first time again. But with all of these movies I notice details with each rewatch that I didn’t see before, so maybe I don’t want that.
– I’d choose the superpower of being able to ask interesting questions! I can’t do it to save my life and you do it practically every post!
– Team ‘shrooms!
Elisabeth
Great answers.
This was my fav: – Stinking rich, and once I see what it’s like I can make the call on whether to buy fame or an island to hide out on. Or both.
I do love to ask questions. The jury is out about whether they are interesting or not 🙂
San
Oh, I’ll submit some questions for sure (although I feel like I asked a LOT recently *hint, hint*).
My favorite hot beverage: Coffee with (soy) milk.
Mushrooms – 100% yes!
Favorite Home Alone trap? The frozen steps on the backdoor entrance.
What celebrity/public figure do people say you most look like? My late aunt always said that Alexis Bledel reminded her of me (maybe also because of her personality in Gilmore Girls).
Elisabeth
Love the hint 🙂
Here’s another hint – I’m looking forward to Monday (wink, wink).
The frozen steps are my favourite too; and that frozen landing and the crowbar! In Home Alone 2 it’s when he touches the taps which have an electrical current and it shows his skeleton. Goodness those traps made me laugh SO hard as a kid (and still do now).
I can definitely see hints of Alexis Bledel!
coco
– How would your kids describe you?
– What do you appreciate the most from your spouse?
– How do you keep in touch with your friends?
– Something that you changed your mind lately
– What’s your relationship with your siblings?
Elisabeth
Great questions! I’ll answer these in my AMA post!
NGS
These questions are so much fun and I’m loving reading everyone’s responses.
Do you “name” your vehicles?
YES! Our old beater is a silver car named Agnes. Every part of her body has been dodgy from day one and she seems like an old lady. Our new car is a white VW wagon named Hedwig (a German name…white owl from HP…I swear it made sense at the time).
What is your most-used emoji? Thumbs up by a large margin. My husband and I respond with this A LOT.
What outfit are you wearing right now? Why did you choose it today? I’m wearing a red dress with flowers on it, black fleece-lined tights, a loose black sweater, and a grey scarf. I chose it because it’s cozy and I have a long day at work and I need to be comfortable.
Elisabeth
Hedwig – that is too hilarious. And Agnes. LOVE. IT.
I also use thumbs up a lot.
That does sound like a cozy outfit.
Lisa’s Yarns
Summer>winter. Math was my favorite in HS, specifically calculus. In college, my fave was differential equations or linear algebra. I am a weirdo, I know, but math was my calling. My fave hot beverage is coffee but specifically a sugar free vanilla latte from Starbucks.
Questions: if you could go anywhere on vacation without factoring in cost, where would you go? Do you and John talk about retirement (timing, where you might live, etc)?
Elisabeth
Calculus. Oh Lisa, and I thought we could be friends (just kidding, but calculus was my NEMESIS. Oh how I hated that class).
Anne
What is your most-used emoji?
The heart, the “moderately happy” smiley, and the upside down smiley. Oh, and the shocked emoji (the one with the wide eyes and lifted “eyebrows”).
What superpower would you choose for yourself?
Flying, or the ability to apparate. Actually, apparating because flying would get cold higher in the atmosphere.
What outfit are you wearing right now? Why did you choose it today?
Sweatshirt and yoga pants, with multiple layers and a microwaveable rice bag around my neck. As one does.
Worst haircut?
I have to pick one? There were so many… still are…
Mushrooms – yes or no?
Yes, but prefer cooked.
I’ll ponder the AMA but right now I’m drawing a blank. 🙂
Elisabeth
Apparating = perfect answer.
I am always a fan of microwaveable rice bags. I use one daily.
Kyria @ Travel Spot
Today’s question: what other languages do you speak? (I will put a few more in the form!)
Favourite hot beverage? coffee
Would you rather be rich or famous? rich
Do you have a nickname? K, Kdub
Do you “name” your vehicles? heck yeah! Red Rocket is mine, my Mom has Grandma Lee, and Dad’s car is Rosie. I named my brother’s girlfriend’s truck Black Beauty but he is not a fan.
What is your most-used emoji? thumbs up
What celebrity/public figure do people say you most look like? OR Which actor/actress would you choose to play you in a movie about your life? I have been told Gwyneth Paltrow or Jodie Foster
What movie/book do you wish you could watch/read again for the FIRST time? Princess Bride
Mushrooms – yes or no? YES
Elisabeth
I ONLY speak English, to my shame since I live in a bilingual country.
Grandma Lee. Love that. And I knew someone that also drove a Rosie.
I use thumbs up a lot, too.
